I'm very sorry that this happened. Something similar happened to me when I was a kid. I could never even think of hurting an animal, but I sure did hate that dog, and I hated him for a long, long time, until I was old enough to realize that he was just an animal, and a very friendly animal at that, who surely didn't have the intention to kill.

Well, your quick defense of Niko in these posts - as we simply try to explain that she's an animal capable of very instinctual behavior and lacks the capacity to be human-like with emotions - shows that you're not seeking to harm her anymore. This is good. This was the point of your post, after all. And now that you're beyond that phase in your grief, I'm sure you can see what a disaster it would have been to have acted on those violent impulses, especially as unusual as they are for you to experience. You would've hated yourself.

What are your plans now for Star? Will you get to bury her somewhere and/or have a memorial service?

i realized it wasnt entirely Niko's fault and we buried her in my backyard

I can understand wny you were angry and as others have said threatening to do something and actually doing it are two different things. Just make sure you dont do it and you should be ok.

sad thing is, if i didnt realize that Niko didnt mean to kill Star i would have killed her for revenge. in my youth before i had my eye disease and eye surgeries i would never defend myself against bullies but if people were mean to cats and i heard about it i used to fight nearly to the death for the cat because when i had no one my cats were there for me so i have a special love reserved only for cats, any and all cats.

Like in Moby Dick: You cannot get revenge on animals. You have my sincerest condolences, your loss is terrible, and believe it or not, you described it so graphically that it almost made me cry, and I have not cried for more than 10 years. I like animals more than humans, so I can understand your desire to get revenge, but it shouldn't be on the dog (like you have already acknowledged). The dog's gotta go, no question. From my perspective, there is no way that dog can live with you in the same house anymore, and I would tell my mother if I feel that way.
I agree. And also because it was mentioned in the OP that the dog was half wolf, and why I wasn't surprised when I heard what it was. Wolf-dog hybrids still have that 'wild' instinct in them, and the prey drive is often higher then in a regular dog.

Most wildlife agencies and wolf sactuaries frown hard on owning one of these hybrids, because they tend to be unpredictable and often go back and forth between domestic and wild behaviors. It's not the animal's fault, but it's not a good 'fit' for being around humans.

TheKing, I am sorry about the loss of your kitten. I would have thought about going ballistic myself had this happened to one of my cats, and in the manner you described. I think that given that you are living with your Mom and her boyfriend, that it would be best until you move out or the dog eventually dies that you don't get another kitten. Otherwise this might happen again, and you don't need that repeat experience :(

I am so sorry for your loss :(. Seeing a cat like that must be absolutely awful and very shocking. Even though it wouldn't be the right thing to do at all, I still don't blame you for wanting to get back at that dog. :x
