I am in a similar situation right now. I was actually thinking of writing a thread like this one today. I have been out of work for one year, my last employer got rid of me because I sufferred exhuastion. At that time I found out I had aspergers and then immediately started writing a book (not about AS). Recently I started looking for a job but even though I have applied I have not heard a think back from any of them. I have a computing degree and have 10 years experience in software development. But because I have been out of work for a year I don't think anyone will employ me. Soon I will lose my flat and will probably have to go back home and I am 41!! !

I just can't seem to snap myself out of it, have been feeling like this for weeks.

At least you didn't tell me to "find" a girlfriend. You told me to "try" to find a girlfriend, which seems doable provided that one understands what "trying" entails. But since I don't know how to "try" to find a girlfriend, your advice is moot.

Have you ever tried to find one in the past? How did you go about it then? You can try talking to people online in your area, go out to places where you can meet people.
What about the Aspie Affection site? That might be a place to look?

If by "trying" you mean peacocking, yes.

I go to the beach often. Most women there are with guys, girl friends, or little kids.

I don't do cold approaching. Too difficult.

LOL at how everyone's trying to give him advice on his love life when he's unemployed. You can't get a girlfriend without a job and usually it has to be a DECENT job too. Even unemployed women won't date unemployed men.

It's true: http://gizmodo.com/5814727/most-women-w ... ployed-man

"It's harsh, but seventy-five percent of women surveyed by ForbesWoman and YourTango said they would not marry a man who was unemployed."

First you must build your self -esteem then find a girlfriend

I was unemployed for a couple of years. That was honestly the worst part of my life. Feeling useless, worthless, and not having any reasons to leave the house every day. I was at the bottom. For the past year i've been working minimum-wage at a small company in the ghetto. The boss is understanding of my aspieness but the pay is really aweful. I cannot make it on my own, I skip many meals, and some days I think about the disgusting (apartment building maintenance) work I have ahaed of me and just want to leave and sit along somewhere in a corner and cry. Mind you i'm a 30 year old guy and I've been through it all but for some reason out of nowhere I am feeling this real depressing notion that i'm going to spend the rest of my life either unemployed or badly employed. It sucks and I wish there was some answer or cure for this but there isn't... it's just another aspie's life. The Neuro-typicals I work with take relief in their family life, friends, going out to drinks, or doing something exciting with their lives... but I have none of those. I go home to a small crappy place and sit there alone until the next day of work. Is this the fate I have to look forward to every day?
