I am really sorry to read that. She was a beautiful rabbit. ((((((((hugs))))))))

Thanks for all your support and kind messages. I'm sorry that the thread title made it look like I had died! I think I should have put 'My RABBIT Jenifer died today' and not just her name and nickname! It's going to be tough the next few days. I am crying again now because I had to go out and feed my other rabbit, Ralph and I just saw that empty space where Jen normally is and it made me feel terrible. Whoever said something about her being put to sleep was right, she was put to sleep unfortunately, but she would have only had a couple of hours left at best anyway because her breathing was so bad. I've made the decision to have her cremated like my other two rabbits so she can be next to her friends once again and I am going to buy a nice flower pot and grow some flowers for her. My workplace (who don't know yet) might even let me put a memorial up in their memorial garden. She meant so much to me, she was not just a pet rabbit, she was my best friend. Oh crud I am making myself cry again

I think it was a mistake you decided to put her to sleep. If she had at best two hours left to live, you could have at least tried to help her live as much as possible. That way when she were to die, you would be able to tell yourself that at least you have done your best.

I also feel bad about the concept of cremation. Is it possible for you to place her next to her two best friends without cremating her?

I have no doubt that Jellybean, with her vet's advice made the best possible decision for Jenifer. If a rabbit was able to make an intelligent decision about their quality of life and communicate it, we would act on their wishes, but as they can't we can only do what appears to be best. Jenifer has enjoyed a far longer life in Jellybean's care than she would have as a wild rabbit, but it must come to and end and it would be selfish to allow her to continue to suffer with arthritis.

All I can say is how sorry I am for your loss, but at least she lived a long and active life.

so you think she should have been kept alive even though she was screaming in pain? You WEREN'T there yesterday. You didn't see that horrible pained expression on my baby's face as she struggled to breath. I HAVE done everything that was best for that rabbit and it pisses me off that anyone would disagree. Her two best friends were cremated and so she will be too. I don't have my own garden so I can't bury her. She needs to be cremated because that is what I do with my rabbits. If you don't like it just go away and stop reading this thread because I am not in the mood for criticism right now.

I haven't been there yesterday, but I HAVE been there when I saw my ex-girlfriend, whose name is also Jennifer, struggle. At times, I had to help her walk across the room. I also had to buy her food and help her at night when she would sleep walk and try to "go to work". Despite all of her pain, this was the time when our relationship was the closest. In fact, she later told me that was when she fell in love with me (up until that time we were dating but she didn't love me as much as she did then). So you see, despite the fact that Jennifer struggled so much, she really liked how much I cared for her. That is why in your case, your Jennifer could have also enjoyed all that care and love, despite the pain, just like my Jennifer did.



But that is not just another rabbit, that is Jennifer. She is Jennifer who happened to be a rabbit. It pains me to think that Jennifer gets lumped together with the rest of the rabbits.

My Jenifer WAS NOT JUST ANOTHER RABBIT. She was also not your Jennifer. My Jenifer was named after the Welsh version of the name which means 'white wave' and had nothing to do with your Jennifer. Stop taking your feelings about some human out on me because right now I can't think straight. Again I request that if it upsets you to read about my rabbit's cremation, leave the thread because I can't cope with people guilt tripping me right now. I didn't do anything wrong and to let an animal suffer is horrible if there is a quick, painless way of stopping it.

Your human Jennifer =/= bunny rabbit Jennifer. Stop projecting your completely different issues into Jellybeans thread, it's very hurtful.

That's so sad. I think it's lovely you'll put her with the other bunnies. So thoughtful of you. You clearly love her very much.
It's so painful when animals get old and sick, especially when you know you have to make the choice for them when to end their little lives.

It'll hurt less over time.

Roman, every situation is unique. I don't think it's helpful to Jellybean to be comparing her situation with yours. She's in distress at the moment, and your words are causing her pain.


Jellybean I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I had to have my cat put to sleep earlier this year, because of a lot of health issues, and he was suffering too. I also had him cremated, and have a little box with his ashes in this room with me. You did the right thing for your rabbit.

Yes I'm glad that you are safe, I thought it meant you had died.

But I'm also sorry your rabbit it gone. It's hard losing a pet

From someone who has lived more than 75% of his life in the company of rabbits, you got my sympathy. And 8+ years is a very venerable age for a rabbit, and I am sure she had a wonderful life with you. Who knows, maybe she is up there in rabbit heaven now with my three rabbits that are already dead.

It is truly terrible that the world has lost such an adorable bunny. I regret that I will never be able to pet such a cute face. (I have a weakness for cute animals... ^^" )
