That the magnitute of methane releases in the Arctic are 3 orders of magnitute higher than expected. Game over for human industrial civilization.
If that's true, then much of the rest of earth's life will be extinct, too. Take away enough of the "supports" consisting of simpler life forms and pretty soon you get megafauna (like humans) toppling. It is generally accepted that we are now in an extinction pattern similar to the dieoff of the dinosaurs, when 70% of life died. The Permian extinction is the outlier, with 95% of earth's life dying. I personally would rather not die in a city, however. I'd better work towards that land in Oregon I want soon-I'd rather die alone.
