Where are you from in the Kingdom of Spain? You did tell me but I have forgotten. I believe it's a major Spanish city?

Why aren't they? They bloody should be. Is there something wrong with them?

You're amazing, thanks! :)

Thanks, I really appreciate this. :)

I wish I was amazing. "Normal person" will do in the absence of that though. :)

OK, I'll answer one by one.
I was born in Sevilla (Southern Spain), but I study in Barcelona (North-Eastern Spain). They're both beautiful cities, I love them, they're lovely in their own way.
My family just doesn't want to admit I'm an aspie. It's as if they see it as something bad which shouldn't be named. So they keep saying "no, you're not an aspie, you're not autistic" as though it was a problem and not part of my personality. It's highly frustrating, but I'm comfortable with my aspieness (if we may give it this name). :)
And you are amazing - amazing indeed. Having the goodness to comfort someone you haven't even met personally makes you really worthwhile.

I want you to know I'm here for you. Thanks so much.

I do. Music, learning languages, writing and reading all about frogs, as well as collecting frog-shaped objects.

Miss Acacia, the reason I'm asking is that when I'm down about people, something I don't do well, it always cheers me up to do things I can do well. Maybe it will work for you too.

BTW, your English language skills would be superior even for a native English speaker.

If you're studying in Barcelona it would be interesting to meet you. I remember conversing with a relative of a friend and he wouldn't stop going on about Catalonia (he was a Catalonian nationalist whereas I had sympathies with Spanish unionism though I didn't know it at the time).

Need to do some research on the subject. :)

And, yes, your English skills are better than millions of people with British passports so I wouldn't worry about that. :)

Have you tried to tell them that it's a mild form of autism and that it doesn't really show up apart from character traits? Perhaps they think autism is some kind of horrid non-verbal thing where the 'sufferer' is like a complete vegetable or something like that.

I would love to visit Barcelona but I worry about getting pickpocketed a little. :)

Hello Acacia. I know what you mean. That's what Internet is for. :)

Getting involved in an interest is a very good idea; I've bonded with people through mine.

I don't know if you like Japanese music, but I was/am feeling quite in need of cheer tonight, and this song does it for me.

If you liked that song.

It reminds me of a better time, I guess.
Patlabor openings, too, I love Patlabor. Patlabor reminds me of a better time. I always feel like I was supposed to be born in the 1980s or late 70s. Patlabor openings are so nice, especially if you got translated lyrics on hand.

I don't know, you're a girl, right? If so, I don't know if 80s Japanese pop and 80s anime songs in animes about piloted giant robots are what would cheer you up, and if so, sorry.

Someone just pm´ed me about this post(same country) so I´ll see what I can do about this.

If you are feeling like an outcast theres a group of aspies in Barcelona that meets regularly(I was on a spanish forum previously and admin kept saying people didnt behave like that on the meetups he went to and encouraging members to go to one) Im not sure if this would be very helpfull but I believe its worth a shot. I can ask him for the information about the meetups or give you a link to the forum he admins so you can approach him yourself if you wish.

Theres also an aspie group there but if Im not mistaken it includes therapy and whatnot and if your parents arent supporting you on this you may not be able to afford it

Also nature clubs are the kind of club where they go bird-sighting... if Im not mistaken.

Yes, I know! I've taken your advice into account. :) So grateful. Thanks for the English language skills compliment, I'm so flattered. I actually did my Proficiency exam when I was 17 and passed first try so yes, I'm pretty fluent with English (I must confess I studied in a British school in Spain, so I've been speaking English daily for more than 8 hours since I was 3...). But I still love learning languages. They're so interesting. Grammar is like a puzzle to me, and it also enhances communication, which is vital, particularly for an aspie. If I'm crap at body language, then I'd better be good at writing or speaking, at the very least!

You're so kind. Thank you very much! I didn't know there were this things in Barcelona, I spend too much time locked up in my flat, studying. This is really relieving! Thanks! :D

You MUST visit Barcelona. Barcelona is absolutely beautiful. It's kinda... sea orientated, if you see what I mean. It's as if everything links to the sea, and the beach. And people there are amazing. Apart from the political issues, of course, where ideologies vary. I personally am not Catalonian, so I have no actual opinion on the subject. But on the whole, they're really polite and friendly people, unionist or not. Really warm and welcoming. If you come, you'd better tell me! hehe

And yup, I think my family believes autism makes you an insensitive entity or something like that. Anyway, I'm comfortable with who I am. It's just that I sometimes feel really lonely because I know people are really bonded to each other in a world where I feel I will never fit in. But knowing I've got support from other aspies, at least here, suffices. You're all such beautiful people... I dunno about the outside, because I haven't seen you, but as far as the inside is concerned, you all rock all the way! :D

Oh. My. God. (Atheist as I am lol). This is absolutely breathtaking. I'm so moved, so touched by the beautiful torrent of words which have dug deeply in my heart. I love poetry, for it replenishes me with childhood memories involving me sitting in a corner in my room picking my way through poems and riddles. The beauty of your words, Kimmy, has nourished me with the happiness and optimism I was longing for.

This, together with the warm posts of fellow Wrongplanet members have made you all successful at cheering me up (at least one tiny weeny bit). But, small as it may be, this tiny weeny bit of happiness is worth gold.

Thank you all for your help. :)

Well here's another of my favorite 80s Japanese groups. TM Network!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaufM9HA_p0
Same kinda style of music. I don't know, TMN is a bit more poppy, but yeah.

As for any old Japanese music, I have downloaded every Boowy album, and every TM Network album, except for their newer stuff. So if you want links or whatever, PM me. I got links to the Patlabor OSTs, too, Patlabor has such great great music. Great show, too. Thanks, usually nobody likes this kinda stuff.

I've been looking into it. If we fly with "Uncle Mick" (i.e. Ryanair) and only take hand luggage we could do a four-day break in Barca for €145 each. No breakfast in that though but it would include the airport return fee to Gerona. :)

I bet there's tons to do there as well. I actually want to come in early February but of course it will be bloody freezing then. That's why it's so cheap. :)

I'll keep my big fat gob shut on the subject, mainly because I'm not Spanish and I don't live in Spain so have no real opinion on the subject. What Spain does is up to her (apart from when it tries to pinch other people's territory... Gib anyone?)

Yes, I'm sure they are. I'd love to meet them.

Oh, and I have only a very loose association with Seville. When we drove from Huelva down to the Costa del Sol, we came up to Seville but stuck on the motorway ring-road as we were told that once you get into Seville it's very hard to get out again! :)

I'm working on it. :)

Well, if you think about the word autism itself - coming from the word 'autos' means 'self'. The notion is of morbid self-absorption. The word 'autism' basically means selfism.

Anyway, I'm comfortable with who I am.

Good for you. You seem to be making a fairly good fist of it what with going to universidad anyway, which is a damn sight more than many other Aspies will ever have the chance to do. You seem to be doing well for yourself.

Quote:
It's just that I sometimes feel really lonely

Me too. I often feel lonely. I don't want to be alone. I have my parents, and they love me, but I still feel alone. I have no-one I can make a connection with, especially women.

Quote:

There are enough of us out there. And not just people with Asperger's either, not by a long chalk.

Quote:
But knowing I've got support from other aspies, at least here, suffices.

It's enough for you? I'm surprised at that - perhaps it's because I feel that I don't really fit in here anyway so it's difficult for me as well. I just try to get on as best as I can.

Quote:

The outside isn't much to write home about. I look like Johnny Vegas pre-weight loss! :D

They won't be sticking me on the wall in MACBA. I think that would be a step too far even for that lot. Even Tracey Emin herself would wince at the idea. ;)

That's very sweet of you to say so. Look after yourself and have a nice evening. :)
