If you don't feel that you are cut out for the regular world, why not drop out of it and join a group like that? Granted, they are few and far between, but they didn't all die out in the early 70s, they are still around. Tuning in, turning on, and dropping out is still around in the new century.
I was in a cult once. Didn't work out, sad to say.
Well from my understanding the Rainbow Family is not a cult......I mean not only have I heard various relatives who've been to rainbow gatherings talk about what sorts of things go on, but I have done minor amounts of reading.
I don't think a cult would probably work for me either.

I hope that if I have kids, they don't grow up believing that it is acceptable to use recreational drugs. Considering that you are a mother, I don't think you should be advocating the use of illegal drugs.
Do you not want to aim a little higher and get more from your life instead of being spaced out, begging, agitated and in trouble with the law? That's certainly not a lifestyle I would want for my own children.
Legally it is acceptable to use recreational drugs, what the hell do you think alcohol is? Sorry man I'm not into prohibition because it does not work and tends to make legal consequences of using a drug far worse then the effects of using the drug. Also I cannot speak for oliveoilmom, but if I was a mom I think Id still oppose the war on drugs and prohibition because I would prefer that if my offspring did choose to use a drug they would not have to risk being thrown in jail for it and that if the had a problem with a drug they would not be afraid to seek help because of the stigma.
Also define more from life? if you'd read this thread you would find that what society defines as a good life is really not working out for me....so nothing wrong with someone suggesting other ideas that maybe don't involve having to try and force myself to function in this sick society.

Lol that's not the only possible outcome. You do have a point though. Take it easy on the drugs Sweetleaf.
I would say I am going pretty easy on such things.....I'm down to about one ciggerette a day, drinking less and not for the wrong reasons, and outside of cannabis anything else I might indulge in would be for on occasion.

Life isn't perfect and doesn't always go smoothly for anyone, everyone has to go through struggles, that isn't a reason to turn to drugs. Drugs are simply a temporary fix for a problem but a permanent craving and a hole in your pocket. There are other solutions instead of drugs such as Cognitive behavioral therapy, personal development, anxiety and stress management, nutrition, forms of exercises.
If drugs were legalized, there would be no way to police them or keep control of them. Yes, they might lose their value but there has to be a way to control them. Drugs have damaging permanent side effects that are dangerous to your health, I don't think they are ideal for anyone to take.

I am quite aware that life is not perfect, usually does not go smoothly and that everyone has struggles.....I am not sure where I indicated otherwise. I can't say that is my reason for using drugs either. Its more like life has caused me so much pain its extremely hard to keep going even when there are people who care. After much experimentation(recreational & otherwise) and excessive drinking to try and decrease the pain. I found cannabis to be an effective way to combat some of the pain I feel and decrease some of my more annoying symptoms......such as constantly being on edge 24/7 like I spent my childhood. I have been in therapy, CBT was attempted anxiety and stress management is good but the only way I know to work on that is get suggestions from people and read up on it which I do when I'm up for it. Nutrition and excercise are also good......but I do have some issues with not eating enough due to lack of appetite or just feeling to bad to eat so naturally I am underweight and probably should not push myself to do more exercise than I do at this point.
So yes there are other solutions and things that can help, but drugs can certainly be useful.......not any drug but obviously one that helps with something.

What about prescriptions, over the counter medications, and legal drugs like caffeine, nicotine, alcohol ect? Not every drug has the same effects or has the same risks. In fact good old alcohol is more dangerous then my substance of choice and its legal.......But the debate on legality of drugs, effects of drugs, pros & cons, ect. would be better fit for a different thread dedicated to that as this thread is really not about that. I don't think having such a debate in a thread about how I am having trouble seeing a reason to continue will really help me feel any better.

CBT doesn't work if your situation is genuinely f****d up. It's there to convince you that things aren't so bad and there's something you can do about it.
The other stuff like nutrition, exercise etc. can help. Doesn't always, and never completely reduces anxiety or anything like that. Anything that makes you extremely anxious is still going to do just that no matter what your exercise routine is like.
Personal development doesn't work unless you know exactly what to do and have the motivation to do so. Very difficult when you are depressed, even worse when you have major anxiety problems on top of that.

Exactly...and its not like I have not tried these things as well as other things.

Anxiety will never completely go away but there are techniques in managing it which can really benefit a person. Drugs including medication aren't a long term cure either, they help subside the and mask the problem instead of dealing with it directly, medication can be helpful but the person taking it should undergo therapy throughout the course of taking it. Cognitive behavioral therapy makes someone more assertive and gives them the ability to discern thoughts that may lead to anxiety or depression.
Also exercise has been shown to substantially reduce levels of anxiety and depression, it releases transmitters in the brain such as endorphins and neurotransmitters, it also reduces immune system chemicals that may contribute to depression.

The techniques don't always work, and drugs can actually be used in conjunction with CBT in some cases. The fact is CBT doesn't work with everyone. It can give people the ability to identify negative thought patterns but that isn't enough to make meaningful, long-term change in a persons life.
Yes, exercise has been shown to improve symptoms of anxiety and depression. It's not going to solve the problem though. CBT should solve the problem if it's successful (according to the theory). But it often isn't.

So the fact that some treatments may be more beneficial to others means people should give up seeking natural and harmless treatments and turn to illegal drugs that have permanent side effects in an attempt to mask the problem instead of seeking other treatments? I have nothing against prescribed medication, as long as it is used with caution but I don't see any reason to use illegal drugs such as heroin or cocaine.
That isn't how the court is going to see it, saying that you need cocaine for personal use because you are on the spectrum isn't going to suffice in court and I know a few people who have attempted to do so and it really didn't help their case.

I know techniques to manage anxiety.........one being try to control my breathing and slow it down as that tends to slow the heartbeat and generally relax the body but there are times that simply does not help. And where did I ever say drugs are a long term cure? I am perfectly aware all drugs can do is reduce symptoms that is precisely why I smoke cannabis though its not a cure it reduces the pain and decreases some of the symptoms.
Also even if I was willing to try therapy again I really doubt I could afford it......but either way I have tried it many times and it never really did much good. As for CBT as far as I can tell I am not any more assertive and I already know what thoughts depress me or make me anxious but I cannot control them and sometimes its not a matter of thoughts causing it sometimes it's just how I feel and then the negative thoughts come after.
I already explained why more exercise at this point is not a good idea for me......that said I do get a lot of walking in because I don't drive.

Cannabis is a natural plant...also I have done plenty of research and the benefits outweigh the risks in my opinion. Also I have tried other treatments and they did NOT work. Also I don't feel I am masking the problem I still know its there and what it is, I just like to have some relief from it. Also I have never done cocaine or herion.....and am not sure I'd even want to.
We are talking cannabis, not cocaine and herion..........though interestingly enough herion and cocaine are scheduled as lower then cannabis when both are far more dangerous.

It could.......I don't exactly do well when I am on edge 24/7 which is how I am if I don't have cannabis, some sort of benzo or alcohol to more or less cause a more relaxed state. Cannabis is the safer of the three so it seems simple to me. I tend to use it daily...though a lot of times that consists of a couple hits in the morning just to get my mood in the right place for the day. Not like the SSRIs that made me feel like I was constantly on rather impairing drugs.
Also I was trying to stay on topic but another poster had to come here to tell another poster that they're suggestion was bad because of drugs mentioned in it......and well of course its hard for me to not start going on about random drug facts when someone brings it up because it is one of my interests. But I am starting to wonder if I should stay in the adult forum............because I really was not wanting this topic to turn into this but now that it has I feel awkward having it here than in the adult forum.

I was talking to other poster more your fine, I quit smoking and I'm much more comfortable now. I don't know if it would help you or not but it wouldn't hurt to try. it doesn't help my anxiety anymore though, it makes me 20 times worse it seems.
Maybe you could get a different one lexapro isn't quite as strong as zoloft, I think that would be better for you.
