It sounds like the OP was asking more about how to psych themselves up to do it than tips on how to actually do it. I know several pretty sure fire ways to do it, and those are easy to find. I would only tell someone those ways if they had a terminal, painful, and absolutely untreatable illness and were wanting to go ahead and die right then instead of a few months later after experiencing untreatable, severe, pain. There are organizations that also help with that.

I would say that if you have to psych yourself up to do it, then that's a clue that somewhere deep down, you really don't want to, so there is still a spark of hope left for happiness, no matter how deeply buried under depression it is. I would suggest trying everything in your power to aleviate the depression instead of trying to achieve a state of deathwish.

That being said, suicide from a terminal physical illness is easier accepted by family and friends than suicide from a mental illness no matter how much emotional pain it causes the person who has it. That's because they know they are going to lose the person with the physical illness anyway. Soon.

Let's look at it like this. Say I had a type of cancer that most of the time causes a slow and painful death, but I wasn't clinically depressed. Of course I'd be depressed over the cancer and I would want the cancer to be cured or treated. I would try everything in my power to treat the cancer. If nothing at all worked, and it was progressing, I am in favor of the option of when I get to a state where my pain is unbearable and I am no longer able to control it even with the strongest drugs, to be able to die quickly and without adding more pain. Some people wouldn't choose that, some do believe in deathbed suffering being redemptive. I think it could be, but I'm too much of a wuss to endure that pain. I'm talking about physical illness here, that can't be relieved by a morphine drip, etc.

Now, when you get into the catagory of emotional/mental pain, that's much iffier. I have major clinical depression at times. I have attempted suicide, but at the time I didn't really want to die, I wanted to get better but nobody would listen to me. I have also felt actually suicidal before but also knew that it was the meds I started that was causing it, so I forced myself to wait and stop the meds and endure it before trying something else that might work.

I have a lot of faith in medicines, that a lot of others seem not to have. I'd probably have a lot of faith in cancer treatments too.

I think that if a person wants to commit suicide because of mental/emotional pain, that if they have truly tried everyting in their power to help it, and that means all the meds and treatments, that it might should be an option. Although as a parent I wouldn't want to leave my children with that legacy, and society does expect parents to suck it up no matter how hard it is. I do and don't agree with that.

I know I'm probably not much help here on this issue. Lets say my mental and emotional pain was caused by my constantly hearing voices or seeing things that completely freak me out, and it's from a severe psychological illness. Lets say I've tried everything and it won't stop. Well, that's also a physical illness, so I could see doing it from that. Also from severe clinical depression that can not be relieved. Even though depression doesn't always mean "sad". You can actually be suffering from severe clinical depression and have a few happy moments, or at least content ones while you are having it. Sounds crazy but it's true.

So that's my take on it. I guess I'm saying it all boils down to if it's organic or if it's psychological, even though both can hurt just as bad. A psychological pain usually cannot kill you unless you actually choose to take the action, where an organic illness can kill you and will kill you no matter if you are happy and hopeful and trying as hard as you can even unto the last breath. Even when you feel that your life isn't worth living, it might be worth your living it just to keep someone you love from hurting. Even if you feel that they don't care that much, because honestly, major depression can cause you to truly believe that you don't matter to someone else. It causes true faulty thinking. If someone in the middle of depression can keep reminding themselves that those are not true thoughts or true feelings (even though they seem true at the time) it's just a matter of enduring it all even though it's horribly painful.

That being said, I am not sure what I would do if nothing at all ever helped my major depression. I would probably try everything that I could possibly try before choosing suicide.

I also want to say that with my suicide attempt, I took enough pills to kill me, in a combination that was sure to, drank a pint of vodka very, very fast, then walked in my nightgown to my mothers house before passing out in front of her house. I wanted someone to see, and know what I was feeling. I didn't WANT to die, but I knew I probably could, and if I did, I was ok with it as long as someone, somewhere knew, that I felt pushed to it by circumstances. The reaction though was horrible. Everybody was mad at me.

I was in the ICU when I woke up, tied to a bed, with charcoal vomit all over me. When my husband could bother to come see me, he said "You are a jackass and a b*tch for doing that!" No, I am not married to <insert You-Know-Who's name here>but he said that. He's kind of a lot like him though. When my mother called me, she yelled at me. Clueless people! I just wanted somebody to understand the pain they were causing me. I got more pain for my trouble. That's when I decided that I wasn't going to die to convenience them, I was going to get them back. By that, I do not mean hurting them in any way, but by vindication when I can sit back and watch them screw up everything.

So, I'd just say that if you don't have an overwhelming desire to be truly dead, don't try and cultivate one. Your brain there holds a glimmer of hope. Try and encourage that one glimmer.

Sorry for going on so long.

Since there is an afterlife (and pre-life, for that matter), that quote doesn't work on me. Thanks for trying, though.

Yes, hopefully.

Don't worry about it. I didn't expect anyone to offer me suicide drinks in the mail, anyway.

YOU MUST GET HELP IMMEDIATELY!! ! DON'T DO THIS TO YOURSELF!! ! GET HELP NOW!! !

What help are you suggesting? Didn't you read about my experiences with the psychiatry? If I meet them, or rather when, as I shall get the benzodiazepines, I will only act bad enough to get them prescribed, and okay enough for them to raise no suspicion. If they manage to see that I'm down, anyway, I will just continue the act and, for example, bring up about deaths of close ones.

Anyway OP, it's a pretty overwhelming feeling... you don't just work your way up to it. Something happens to you, it may be big or small, but it reflects a larger problem and all of a sudden life really isn't worth hanging on to anymore. The kind of thing I'm talking about can't be planned, to my knowledge.

Sounds like I'm getting there.

They threatened to put him in an asylum... of course they are the enemy. f**k that sh**.

There are a lot of really bad ones out there and you can be held indefinitely.

Ahh, not asylum - officially, those don't exist, in this glorious country, anymore. :) Now they just have "psych wards", where you can be held indefinitely, with no rights to oppose their "care" of you, as they are doing it to "protect you from yourself" (and/or others)... oops, seems that is pretty much the definition of an asylum, though?

Also I know I've said this to you but I think my fear and depression focuses itself on a very similar target to yours. I don't want to grow older, I want perfection and beauty and it has in the past completely tortured me when I felt it was out of my reach. Well yes the growing older part is inevitable but I have actually begun to feel lately that it is a beautiful and even courageous adventure.

Indeed, I do not want to grow older. And I won't. Even if I miraculously found my true love. That's what my desired, romantic suicide pact is for... my first two exes agreed with me on it, so it's not like there aren't girls with similar desires, in that regard.

Growing older may be courageous, but it isn't beautiful. What's beautiful with basically rotting, while still alive? How hot would sex be in later days? Yuck.

Also as for paranormal events go it doesn't mean it will happen on that exact date. You never know when the awakening will actually take place.. isn't it worth hanging around to find out?

I've seen what you've written about death and I don't think it's true or healthy. Whatever help you seek, please do. And take care.

It's good that you show care and don't just point out the immaturity of being into anime and manga, like in another, old thread that I remember. That's appreciated from my point of view.

As for waiting and waiting for something significant to happen.... sometime, the waiting has to end. Sometime, you have to be allowed to be happy, or what else is the point of continuing to live?

We differ in opinions on that, then. I actually wanted to include asking about poisons that aren't painful to die with, but I expected that a moderator would edit it out, so I did not. I did take note of the first post in my thread, however, that was deleted. I'm not sure if the poster meant to help me with comforting support, or just don't like me, but at least it contained some information that, however, I'm unsure can be of value to me.

Well, I'm pretty sure I have severe clinical depression. Nothing enjoys me, anymore, and I actually am doing worse than I was doing after that first ex that I mentioned let me know that she had been unfaithful. I never thought I'd be feeling worse than that, but I am, and trying to describe how bad I felt, then, is impossible - I even felt like I was going to suffocate, the day afterwards. While I do not have such emotional responses, now, I still am doing even worse. Does that mean that I qualify for death help, in your view?

I'm very sorry for your past experiences, by the way. It must have been very emotionally painful.

You never know what will happen in the future. Literally anything could as I see it. People are seriously talking about building moon colonies. At this rate who knows, maybe when you're sixty the biochemical fountain of youth will have be created. Or maybe you'll just have gained a perspective that allows you to find life in older age beautiful and fulfilling. Just saying there are things that happen that nobody can predict.

Seriously please see a doctor, you're a lovely person and you shouldn't be suffering like this and there are lots of lots of things in this life that can be tried before you decide there's no hope.

First, the obligatory DON'T DO IT, GET HELP! But whatever, you'll decide what you want to do. I've tried and I've had friends who've succeeded. There's no way to lighten the blow on the people who love you and I'm not really interested in trying to help lighten the load of guilt for something like that regardless of the motives.

But this caught my eye:

What do you think life is? This isn't a movie or a novel. Life is every detail of every day, some good some bad some horrible some joyous and wonderful. But truthfully the majority of those moments are going to be mediocre. Even if you're a navy seal fighting intergalactic insects on the moon. It will be long stretches of mediocrity punctuated by moments of shocking and intense drama (good or bad).
When I get really down I think of Carl Sagan saying we are star stuff. I think of the utter improbability of my birth. I imagine the Total Perspective Vortex from the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy.
YOU ARE HERE. Yeah, we're all tiny and insignificant. But we're here. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Living with the hope that someday you can financially support your more successful brother is mediocre. I don't believe that the world has to be. So nothing you just said remotely relates to me...

I think Videodrome meant contributing to the next generation (nephew not brother) which is laudable and a long and fruitful tradition. And really, the world would be a better place if more people had such "mediocre" goals.

He's talking about supporting his brothers family by adding to the college fund. That's increasingly becoming the parents role, and so I went with brother. It's not important, it's still mediocre.

I was trying to sidestep this because I thought it would be rude. But here it is: No one else gets to decide what's important in someone else's life. They're a whole other person in the world with completely different experiences and tastes and habits. Plus, if it's not hurting anyone, who cares? I would rather spending a night baking kolaches than going to a club. That probably makes me statistically abnormal. Whatever, strobe lights make my head hurt and kolaches taste really good. To me, it's a no brainer. But you can go ahead and enjoy the club. I won't judge you.

I agree. As long as you're happy with your life you'll be fine.

PS: I hate clubs

If you're considering killing yourself, that means you've got nothing to lose. I'd spend the next year doing whatever the f**k I wanted!, then seeing how I felt afterwards.

As far as 'making it easier' for people goes...I'm sorry, it's just not possible. Suicide is a highly self-centered act no matter how you from it. And I don't mean that to sound condescending or patronizing, it's just kinda how it is.

I disagree, considering a lot of times a suicidal individual will feel like everyone else is better off without them. Also on the grounds it's usually to do with feeling like there is no other way to end the pain so it can be a bit of a delusional mindset in which case you cannot hold the individual accountable for being 'self-centered'. but that's just my opinion.

me and my best friend made a suicide pact awhile ago, but part of the pact is that we will NOT commit suicide unless our lives warrant it. we intend to take Potassium Cyanide, it will kill you in less than a second, but its very painful....if you put Potassium Cyanide in water it becomes Hydrogen Cyanide, it will put you in a coma in less than a minute and you will die in your sleep in 30-45 minutes

i dont really have any advice for you except what im doing, my life isnt messed up enough yet to warrant suicide so i f**k up my own life to bring myself to the point where i can warrant killing myself......im VERY self sabotaging in life

thats all the advice i have for you, idk whether this will help or not but thats for you to decide
