Have you tried googling the name? You might find something on who the commenter is, at least, that way.

That would be futile. It was just a first name. I should have clicked the identifying link when I had the chance. Hindsight...

I write a lot of things because it helps me understand my life more. Much of it is very personal and there's sometimes a process where I warm to sharing some but not all of it. Or I will change names *Robert, *Carol etc.

I don't share all of my stuff. some of it really is just for me. There are some, though, that takes me a while to share. In some instances, years.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, but at times, I have written just "thank you" to people (it wasn't me Tea; I've never commented on a blog there)....it's because I didn't know what else to write.

But sometimes I'll write more than that, and then think, "wow, this sounds patronizing", or like I'm trying to "one-up" the person's experience, and so I erase it and just leave the "thank you".

I actually do that here - I'll erase most of a post, or delete it altogether.

Edit to add:
So, if I ever write just "thank you", here's my translation: "I really related to that; and I appreciate that you've shared it."

Once in a while, I leave comments on strangers' blogs to show them that I appreciate their posts. Hmm, to me, "thank you" probably means "thank you for sharing".

I think they might have just meant 'thank you' the way some people go 'amen' when they agree with a statement.

Or you may have actually touched someone who was in a difficult place and helped them by allowing them to see they weren't alone.

You'll never know, so might as well take the Okham's razor approach; it's more likely to be a complete stranger on this vast internet who just liked what they read and said 'thanks' than a relative/co-worker who randomly stumbled upon it and is now starting a campaign to torture you with cryptic comments :)
