I've been totally self-sufficient for years, but mainly just because my family 'has issues' and living with them isn't a viable option. It's suprising what you can acheive when you have no other choice, lol.

I'm 41 and I live with my Mom. I tried living on my own for a while but my anxiety got much worse.

I moved out at age 25. Living at home was an annoyance since I had 3 teen siblings living there as well. It didn't cramp my style though. It was pointless to move out because I was still going to be a social loser whether I lived at home or in an apartment. Also, I did a fair amount of travel for my job.

I live with my parents because I'm extremely dependent and I struggle with a lot of things that prevent me from advancing in life. I'm working really hard on them, but it's not getting any better.

Moving out was one of the most beautifully difficult things I've ever done. I don't know how I did it, but it involved dropping out of school, finding a job, and finding a place that would take someone with no credit history whatsoever. I live with a close friend who knew already how out-of-the-ordinary I am, so there haven't really been any issues.

I lived with my parents until I was 29 and then shared a house with a friend for about a year. I have lived alone ever since. I also stayed in college longer than normal. Mostly I was just avoiding having to deal with the real world.

I got some ridicule from some people, mostly women, for living with my parents so long and I felt ashamed of being so dependent. I might have benefited from forcing myself to learn how to live on my own earlier, but perhaps it would have been a mistake. I don't see much point in second guessing how I have lived my life.

In this economy, living on your own is a good deal harder. There isn't any shame in it so long as you are making a reasonable effort or else everyone involved is happy with the arrangement. Frankly it doesn't matter what other people think if it works for those concerned.

I'm almost 19 and I still live at home. I'm still in high school and I don't have a job. Most of the 18 year olds that I know who are still in high school and don't live at home come from very dysfunctional families.
