I see that attitude as a step away from what we (as a group) should be presenting to the NT population.

Many of those who do carry that attitude, simply because of how NTs' attitudes towards them and have treated them, and they are mirroring that attitude right back at them. I can see why they do it, but it is their choice to make.

I don't agree with that for many reasons - most of us hate being judged and treated in a certain manner just because we have ASD, so I don't see why you would do the same thing to an NT.

You can't expect them to accept our differences if we can't or won't accept theirs.

If any group was going to be accepting of differences, I would expect it to me us, simply by virtue of what most of us have experienced. Sadly, too much of the time that isn't necessarily the case.

I share your pain when I see threads like that. I may understand it but it stills hurts to see it happening.

One of the misconceptions of the autism pride movement is that autistics hate neurotypicals. While it is true that neurotipicals tend to point out our weaknesses and flaws in order to gain an economic advantage over us nevertheless we respond using love rather than hate. In fact neurotypicals only have power over us if they can get us to hate them.

Something that is going on currently in our society is causing this distress. As there is more awareness of autism, NT's react by treating people with more tolerance and compassion. Well guess what!? We'd all love that but it is simultaneously reinforcing autistic behaviors--- something I personally can't stand when people do that to me. LOOK ME IN THE EYES! Don't look away from me just because you know I have Aspergers FFS!

So would you rather be treated like a normal person or accommodated by NTs? This accommodation conditions NTs to treat us in a "special" way (unique to each NT) so that it takes away our "social training".

I find it a show of kindness to not force me to be social on the part of the NT, but it's also ENABLING me to continue acting "autistic".

There is no one-size-fits-all solution here but my personal preference is to forget I'm autistic and just be the weird one with my social groups. I don't hate NTs, I just hate being treated like an autistic! :( :( :(

Hope what I said is somewhat clear, having a "word salad" day in my head where everything is all there at once instead of streamlined.

I work in an additional learning support capacity, so equality and diversity awareness is very important to me. I also have a strong sense of justice and do get wound up by stereotypical comments which potentially can do a lot of damage.

The comments in this thread have helped me to put the 'aspies hate NTs' idea into a wider context and I now feel that I have a better understanding of how the concept has come about. Many thanks :)

I dislike them because they are not letting me in, I am being excluded by them as being "different". I do have a huge respect for NT scientits, artists, thinkers etc as well as some criminals. Lot's of great NT minds out there!
