Why? It may well be that what you did was not what the small panel of judges for this particular contest was looking for, but the next contest it might be. I know several people who are friends with a friend of mine who are musicians. They have all tried out for things like American Idol and failed. They didn't even get beyond the initial vetting. The thing is though, they still tried and are still trying. It's taken years but one of them just got a decent paying gig with traveling expenses paid to perform about 500 miles away. Why? He was persistent and didn't let all of the rejections stop him from pursuing his dreams. Now this doesn't mean he will ever get a recording contract but that's the way the business works. Heck, that's the way life works! I am a talented person with regard to technical things myself yet I still deliver pizza for a living at 38 (and have never had a girlfriend either). The difference is that I haven't decided to give up. I am returning to college this fall to try and finish the engineering degree I started in my teens.
As for you, I think it's a shame you ruined your work. What I would have done instead was submit it to animation companies that work in claymation as part of a resume and ask for a job. You may not be the star of the show right off but it would be a foot in the door of the industry. However, you have to have the right attitude. It may be that a thousand doors get slammed in your face but the 1,001st lets you in. Remember too that there are seven billion people walking the face of this planet, many of whom also have untapped talent. Yet, they manage to figure out how to have good lives despite not being part of the 0.0001% of humanity that ever gets their shot at 15 minutes of fame. Plus, fame is fleeting. How many artists are one hit wonders? How many formerly famous people wind up living in the gutter when society has wiped it's a*s with their lives and moved on to the next new thing? Not everyone has a long career. Even for those who do make it on a team or get an album on the carts there is no guarantee they will be able to repeat it. For every Michael Jordan there are hundreds, if not thousands of bench warmers.
