As to why I have not sought help yet, that is complicated. I actually have sought assistance a few times, but all I got were pills to deal with the depression that were sometimes worse than the depression itself. It turns out that I do not tolerate SSRI drugs (Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, Prozac, etc.) well, so the normal stuff would not work.

I'm actually really scared of medication. Scared of getting addicted and scared of side effects.

Do you know why you don't tolerate SSRIs?

That's alright. I really hope things will get better for you. That you'll get the help you need.

I am not really certain why I do not tolerate that particular class of drugs. It is usually the most well tolerated of them all. However, I tend to sometimes have stronger reactions to some medications than is normal, so I have always wondered if my neurology is different. Now with my discovery of the similarities between my life experiences and those of people on the autistic spectrum I might have a plausible explanation. I also do no tolerate marijuana well and I wonder if that is because of it's action on serotonin receptors?

I do have a suggestion for you if you do get put on medication. I would keep a log of the time you take your medication and when you feel any side effects. This way, you have a way to correlate things and show them to a doctor. I did this years ago and still refer back to these log books when I am researching these drugs. I also included the name of the drug and the dosage I was given. This was actually relevant recently as I was able to compare notes with a friend that was put on Celexa (the same friend who wants me to get help). It seems he was put on 3x the dose I got and had much less severe effects from it than I did.

Now, as to what anti-depressant I tolerated the best, that would be Wellbutrin. It's funny though as my physician asked me what drug I thought he would prescribe me, and I had guessed it! I had a good rapport with him as he trusted my research and ability to ask intelligent questions about my own care. He also gave me Adderall for my attention issues the last time I went back to college a few years ago (it was super effective!). Sadly though, my current doctor does not see me in the same light as the last one did and instead seems to treat me like a mental lightweight. He won't give me the Adderall for my attention issues despite my having asked for it and having explained that I had a childhood diagnosis of ADHD. It's probably the thing that helped me the most with my depression and motivational issues, as well as helping me to lose weight at the same time. (It's also why I posted a question about Adderall and Aspergers a few days back, to see if it contraindicated Aspergers since it works on ADHD.)
