This is sad and yet comforting.

Many nights I cry and cry hoping that Timmy is there. Maybe he is in spirit but I can't see him. At times Ruby barks in an area where there can be nothing there. Maybe its Timmy?

You definitely got that right. When I was growing up, I felt my cat was my only real friend. I will never feel the way most people do about pets- "oh, it's just a dog/cat".

Now I have a dog. There is no better companion, that's for sure.

Ruby may be a sweetheart, but she and Timmy are two different dogs. One cannot replace the other. It's totally understandable that you still miss Timmy.

Dogs are more perfect than us. If the point of our existence on earth is to become a better person, it makes sense we have to spend more time working on it than dogs do. What do you think Timmy would want you to do after he was gone? Is there something you can do to honor his memory?

No dogs are NOT more perfect than us! I will not eat out of the garbage can and my mouth doesn't water at seeing a full litter box. Grow the hell up!

Dogs are great! I've got two wolf hybrids that I love more than I do some humans. But they are dogs. I'm AWARE OF THAT FACT. Learn it, love it, live it.

This is just a bad game of Limbo. One person goes over, and another goes under; sooner or later you're going to kick someone in the face... Can we keep this OT for the sake of politeness?

The comparisons, opinions, and this existence crap has nothing to do with the OT. Comparing humans to dogs is like taking peanut butter out of your hair; not real easy... And since when did OCD and perfection come into this? Yes most prefer dogs over other people, but why did someone have to dig into their middle school science book, to bring up our existence?

Perfection will NEVER happen. Saying an apple is perfect, is no more than a figment of knowledge... much like an opinion. OliveOilMom is right; quit doing the comparisons, and just give support for Timmy. If you have nothing appropriate to say, then get out of my car!

Gosh sorry that I posted this in the Haven. I thought the Haven is supposed to a be a forum to post our sad thoughts and get some support and guidance. NOT a bashing post!

^that's what i figured. But I guess some just can't resist the chance to kick people when they're down. Try to ignore that type, if you can.

I apologize for going over-board on my previous post. I'm still getting the hang of what it's like here, and I just wanted to keep your thread on-topic and away from rude posts. The Haven IS a forum to post our sad thoughts AND get some guidance, however I made a risky move that, hopefully, didn't make an issue for you. I'm truly sorry for acting the way I did, and I hope that you're not upset.

Have you thought about training your new dog some tricks? It could get your mind off of Timmy, and give your dog some exercise. You could even treat the new dog like you did Timmy, and see the reactions. Show Timmy that you're proud of him, and that he's not holding you back or hurting you. Showing him your pride and strength away from him, would make him happier, knowing that he's not causing you stress! (Dogs can sense any kind of stress, tension, or anger in someone very quickly; they try to fix it every way they can, but it also puts a weight on their shoulders if they experience it themselves)

Don't try to REPLACE Timmy.. Instead: try to show happiness through teaching your new dog. Timmy wouldn't want to cause you stress, so assure him that he's not, and that your training your new dog in honor of him. Your new dog will never replace him... right? Then show Timmy that he's not holding you back!

I hope I made sense in the paragraphs above. If you didn't quite understand, just let me know. :)
