I have to say I disagree with the idea of having high-risk surgery without first clearly defining the problem. I have just worked with too many clients who've had spinal surgery and complications associated with it, only to find it did not help their symptoms.

Have they done an EMG or nerve conduction study yet? If not, I think you need to insist that they do.

Dear GoonSquad, you are in my thoughts at this time from South Africa, and I really hope the situation is not as bad as the doctors suspect. (i.e. bone cancer). As a runner, I know how incredibly frustrating it is when one cannot walk properly, and although I've never had anything as bad as your pain, I feel for you. *Hugs *

Please keep us updated on your situation. Do your own online research as much as possible and consider every possible treatment that could be of benefit, from diet to drugs. Sometimes the medical profession is a bit inflexible and do not think out of the box! So approach this holistically.

Best wishes at this time.

So, at this point, they are transferring me to another hospital (supposedly, with the best neurosurgeons in the region). I'm going to get a new full set of images, full battery of test, and then surgery toward the end of the week.

For what it's worth, the neurologist did conquer that this was a case for surgery after his examination.

Let's hope they're right.

Well, the good news is, my neurosurgeon did a full body MRI of me (under sedation) and he thinks it is just stenosis, not cancer, and that I probably have something called DISH with complications (lucky me).

Anyways, I'm gonna have surgery on Monday fo' shizzle my fizzles. Wish me luck.

Sounds like you are prepared for the worst, so all's thats left is hoping for the best. My prayers are with you too.

Btw you are young enough to come back quite a ways in recovery. I went down for the count at 47 and have improved every year since. You don't have to get all the way back to where they once where to enjoy the day again.

so sorry you are going through this.......I sort of understand I have a growth that I'm waiting a month to see a specialist but I'm in no pain or anything....they should have taken care of this sooner for you.

I'll pray for you. I hope you feel better soon.

Once again, thanks to all for support and good wishes.

I'm going in for surgery at about 2:00 monday.

I guess it will work out one way or another...

Quote:
. Whatever happens, happens such as you are either formed by nature able to bear it, or not able to bear it. If such as you are by nature form’d able to bear, bear it and fret not: But if such as you are not naturally able to bear, don’t fret; for when it has consum’d you, itself will perish. Remember, however, you are by nature form’d able to bear whatever it is in the power of your own opinion to make supportable or tolerable, according as you conceive it advantageous, or your duty, to do so. ~Marcus Aurelius
