I only talk about religion on ppr when I defend mine. Meaning all my threads are usually trying to eliminate common misconceptions about Islam, I never make threads saying why aren't you Muslim, I hate non Muslims, etc. I've never made such threads. All my threads were actually DEFENSIVE threads defending my religion from abuse and bashing.

This is probably then the cause of many of the conflicts. I know you feel compelled to defend your belief's, but it does no good in most public forums. For various reasons they aren't listening, and you are mainly just a lightning rod for them to express their own predjudices. Once in a while you will find an open person willing to discuss religion without recrimination, but it is rare and most often soon drowned out by the loudmouths with an agenda. You will notice the majority do not join such discussions for this reason, that they inevitably become rude shouting matches or troll fests. The majority who probably could discuss it reasonably are silenced by the minority who can not. Just the way it is. To discuss it civilily and without bashing you would have to find a forum specifically set up for such discussions and with rules set up to facilitate it

Exactly, that's what I meant by opinions - people have made up their minds before they even post, before they read what anyone else has to say, and nothing anyone writes is going to change that. PPR opinion threads, and any other threads where strong opinions are expressed are like long brick walls against which to beat one's head. Not worth the time or effort unless one really likes that kind of thing. ;)

Besides which, I think there's a find line sometimes between defending one's beliefs and proselytizing, which many people just cannot stomach. They may not notice the posts filled with misinformation or bigotry but see what you write as pushing your beliefs on them. Religion is a tricky subject to discuss anywhere.

salad, it is good of you to try to clear up what you see as misunderstandings of your beliefs. Bear in mind however that it is difficult for any teenager to realize their own perspective may be more limited than they think they know. To some degree that is true for all humans, not just teens. On the internet as much as in real life one needs a thick skin. Maybe even more on the internet, because it seems easier for people to be more rude online than they would normally be in person. Hang in there, keep your chin up, and kudos to you for being a good person and trying to help others.

There's nothing bigoted about disliking or fearing an ideology that wants to: enslave you, that endorses acts of violence against unbelievers, that considers you inferior, that tic[tells its followers not to make friends with you, that considers it an Islamic duty to kill Jews, that it is Islamic to take conquered women as sex slaves, that endorses the forced marriage (and later rape) of children, that supports wife-beating and female subjugation and that openly considers women inferior, and that calls for the execution of gay people

I can think of some branch of Christianity that fits each of those.

From an atheist perspective, well, all religions have their complete loonies, but, thankfully, most religious people are only slightly loony.

Oh, and Salad, you aren't the only one who gets into fights all the time on here!
