I'm probably going to have to get a wisdom tooth extracted
After about a week of panicking about it, I think I'm actually going to go through with this and get my wisdom teeth extracted. What's kind of strange is that I don't feel as scared or anxious about it anymore, I actually feel kind of slaphappy. My coordination and reasoning skills also seem to be impaired. I haven't taken any drugs or drank any alcohol. It must be a purely psychological reaction.
My spring break is half over, so maybe I should wait until the summer to get my wisdom teeth extracted. My impacted wisdom tooth doesn't hurt that bad, I think I can wait until then. I hope my mind is still gone then, that way my sanity won't prevent me from going through with this.
Then again, my wisdom tooth is just barely impacted. I think it's only on an angle of about 15°. The side of it that's closest to the molar next to it has already emerged. The side of it that's closest to the back of my mouth is still covered up by some slightly-swollen gums though. Maybe the tooth will force it's way through, and the gum won't hurt anymore. If not, I can cut back the gum line myself, little by little, day by day. I'm always better at tolerating pain when it's self inflicted. I used to have the temptation to poke at my gum sores with my fork, which hurt a lot, but I did it anyway. I've removed gum sores using just my fingernails in the past, which didn't ease the pain, but it did ease the swelling. I could cut back the gum line on my wisdom tooth that way if I had to. I already removed a little of it with a plastic floss pick. It hurt and caused it to bleed, but I think it helped to ease the swelling-related pain a little. If this tooth can completely erupt and not cause me any long term pain, then I might never have to get it extracted because I habitually brush my wisdom teeth.

I just noticed yesterday that my wisdom tooth is actually growing in almost perfectly straight. It's erupted enough now that I can easily tell. This is kind of strange because when I got my x-rays two years ago it looked like that wisdom tooth was at an angle of about 45°. My other wisdom teeth have already grown in pretty straight. It looks like I'm probably not going to need to get my wisdom teeth extracted after all. I'll probably need to get them extracted eventually, but hopefully oral surgery will have advanced a lot by then.
I was actually thinking of waiting till I'm an old man to get them extracted, if they don't cause me any problems before then. If they still don't cause me any problems when I'm an old man, then I figure I'll just never get them extracted. It doesn't feel like it's going to mess up my other teeth. It's not pressing on the tooth next to it at all. My gums finally stopped hurting after the tooth erupted a little more. My other 2 wisdom teeth are already completely grown in, and they didn't mess up my other teeth at all. I guess I'll wait awhile, and see if a good reason comes up to get them removed.

Makes me feel sad now that they don't use gas in Finland for dentistry
I am going to go under this operation soon... I have the exact same problem as OP with one of my wisdom teeth being crooked and hurting and it's driving me mad... Luckily both my mother and best friend are dentists so I should be in good hands
All the best OP... I hope you're able to embrace yourself to get the surgery. I'm sure it's worth it and far less discomfort than not having it at all. *hugs*

There really isn't a need to wait until summer to get it done. If you are worried about missing school have it done on a Friday afternoon so you can stay home the next day. My kids that have had it done all went to school the next day, and they were all put to sleep for it. I had it done and was put to sleep for it too, and it wasn't a problem for me and I'm terrified of dentists and hate needles.
I was in there with my daughter when they did hers and they gave her nitrous in a mask to relax her and then put the IV in and when they were ready they gave her a short acting anesthesia in the IV which just knocked her out for about ten minutes but didn't put her so deeply under that she needed help breathing, like for actual surgery. She was awake but groggy 15 minutes after they were pulled and she slept most of the way home, but was awake enough to go in the pet store with me and pick out the hamster she wanted (I also had to get mice for the snake but had promised her a hamster to take her mind off the dentist).
I've had some pretty severe phobias in the past and I'd honestly suggest that you work with a therapist about them. That helped me, and life is much easier without all that fear. Being around the actual object that you have the phobia of, or having something happen that you have the phobia of is never as bad as you think it's going to be. Building it up in your mind beforehand makes it a lot worse than it is.
Make sure you let the dentist know about the phobia, he could probably give you valium to take an hour before the appointment as well. That's what they do for me, still.

i mean salivary gland disorder, although im no sure why im laughing as this is the second time its caused me bother and im only feeling good about the surgeon who's going to operate. he is world class. see me for more details if anone here is suffering with this problem. i thought there was an additional nameword for it but the last post i wrote in was for another diagnosis.
I might need to have mine removed too not too sure I know that one of mine has a cavity in it at any rate, I have had 5 teeth removed in a sort of surgery not sure what the difference between wisdom teeth and other teeth is, but before my wisdom teeth grew in I needed my four back molars removed and one other tooth I forget where it was, at any rate they gave me the most foul tasting drink before I went in then they put the IV in my arm, for the longest time I have been afraid of needles and to some extent I am still afraid of them today however I find that focusing on something completely different helps.
My top wisdom tooth is over-erupted because it took so long for the bottom wisdom tooth to erupt. I think I should try to pull it out to make more room for my bottom wisdom tooth to grow, before it becomes a problem. It'd be too risky to try to just yank it out, so I think I'll just lightly pull on it repetitively with a pair of pliers until the roots wear out, so that I can easily pull it out. It'll probably take several hundred repetitions and hours of work to get to that point, but I'll probably be able to do it. I can be very persistent when there's something that I really want to accomplish. I'll have to remember to thoroughly cleanse my mouth of food particles, sterilize the pliers before I use them, and have gauze handy for after the tooth is pulled out.
My grandparents are coming over for Easter dinner tomorrow, so I should probably wait until Sunday to do this. That should give me more time to prepare for this anyways. I might come up with other ideas before then that could make this safer and easier.
Just to confirm about this, i have had wisdom tooth probs, v recently, i needed antibiotics, 3ooomg in 5 days to be precise, and i was totally out of it. i mean out, and it didn't help with my puffy gland up like a volcano about to burst.
i may need bohemian rhapsody, i may need painkillers, but most importantly, i need my surgeon, lolz...
may be spending easter sunday in a trance ![]()

Just found out that all 4 of mine are impacted--started feeling a pain in the lower left side of my mouth, went to the dentist and that's what the x-rays showed. Interestingly, nothing else is wrong with my teeth, even though I haven't been to a dentist in 8 years.
He suggested that I have all four out at once. Not sure about that--people have told me that it's better to do two at a time. Regardless, I have to have a general anesthetic--which, for me, is the worst part. I don't like the idea of going under. Wish I could just have a local, but he warned me that at this point that would be a very bad idea.
I teach classes online and work part-time at Walmart. I will probably wait for the semester to be over, then request about a week off to make absolutely certain I have time to recover before scheduling the surgery (they prefer that you arrange for more time off than you need so there will be no problems with returning to work when expected).
Good luck, Mike1. ![]()
