If this was a legit attempt at self harm, I might consider 'mental illness' but this just sounds like dumbassery that plenty of non-mentally ill people take part in. Hasn't anyone seen the various shows on t.v of people doing stupid crap for fun and getting injured...mentally ill people may not be immune to that kind of thing but attributing any stupid behavior to mental illness...seems to kind of down play how much of a struggle actually having mental illness is.

I wouldn't necessarily attribute stupid behaviour to mental illness, nor would I say that mental illness necessarily makes you behave stupidly. I don't see how this isn't an attempt at self harm (knowingly or not) though. Something's misfiring.

It's not "self harm" by any means. It's stupidity. He thought he could do the kind of thing that is done in movies. He obviously cannot because nobody can without a whole crew, a stunt double, and lots of safety measures. He feels pretty stupid about it right now. I do understand concern that somebody jumping out a window might be an attempt to hurt themselves, but its not always that. Not everything has a deep psychological meaning, some people are just dumbasses, like him. :-)

Well, I do hope he is okay and I do hope he has learned a valuable lesson from this which is think through something before you act. I hope he is a bit wiser. It does seem like a dumb thing to do.

Toss in a couple Naruto comics with the TMNT balloons. At least it will give him something to read. He obviously needs more training before he tries any cool ninja moves. lol.

Tell him the only thing stopping you nominating him for a Darwin Award is the fact that he's not dead.

Around here in NY, there were some guys who kitted themselves up as ninjas to do home-invasion robberies on old ladies...
