I first contemplated suicide when... (NSFW)
Next occasion was when I was around 13 years old. Similar problems and everything seemed so damn pointless and futile. I made a noose and headed off into nearby woods to hang myself. Climbed a tree, fastened the rope to a branch, put the noose around my neck and lowered myself off the branch, hanging on only by my hands... all I needed to do was let go and it would have been all over. For some reason I couldn't take that final step and eventually clambered back onto the branch and went back home like nothing had ever happened. Never told anyone.
Next occasion I was around 18. Bought a load of aspirins to overdose myself (don't even know if they'd be fatal or not) but only took a few and then lost the urge to continue. Again, told nobody.
Next occasion when I was a student aged around 20 - I walked through fast moving traffic late one night hoping someone would run me down but the cars just swerved to avoid hitting me and tooted their horns or shouted obscenities at me. Again I told nobody - I never knew who to talk to anyway.
Next very serious attempt was around 12 years ago. Life seemed so futile. I was working two jobs. My income was good but life just didn't seem worth living. I lived with depression for a long time then took a whole load of different pills (enough to kill a horse) and washed them down with a bottle of whisky; this was in a deserted location in the countryside where nobody would ever find me. I woke up the following day. I'd been sick and vomited the lot all over my clothes. I had hypothermia and ended up in hospital briefly. I had to see the hospital shrink who asked me why I'd attempted suicide and I simply explained that life had become so miserable and I was so unhappy that I didn't want to carry on. I simply wanted to go to sleep and never wake up again. He patiently listened and said nothing useful (can't even remember what he said now) then I was released from hospital.
It is inevitable that one day I will die at my own hands. Likely with a strong rope and hang myself with what's called the "long drop" with a proper 8 loop noose - it is pretty much guaranteed to be fatal instantly with little or no pain. I'm now aged 53 and can't find work. Nobody wants to employ people when they are over 50 with medical problems when there are lots of unemployed younger people to fill the vacancies. I live in poverty with my wife who receives a very small state pension. She has a health condition that will likely eventually kill her and at that point the taxman will hit me with death duty taxes that I have no means of paying which would force me to sell our home and live on the streets; so I either starve to death on the streets, unable to pay for food or my diabetes and heart medication or take my own life. I am reconciled to the latter. Upon the death of my wife I will hang myself and be done with the whole miserable lot called life.

It's probably against the rules to argue with a moderator, but though I am fortunate in a lot of ways including being employed, hierarchies get me mixed up. So here I go again, probably getting myself in trouble.
I am almost as old as you, and while I can't say you're wrong, because you know yourself and I don't, I know that I keep having my expectations turned upside down. Often in bad ways, sometimes in good. I am very fortunate now in many ways, though very unhappy, and constantly aware how easily I could lose everything. Including by reaching out at WR with posts that could be used to hurt me.
I know that nothing is permanent, nothing is inevitable. Other than I believe my love for the children I carried inside me is forever for so long as I live and carry their memories in my mind.
Nothing, not good, not bad, nothing is inevitable. That's frightening to a mind that seeks order, rules, and consistency. I don't understand how to live comfortably in the world, but I do understand that how those things exist for other minds is just that little bit different.
I apologize if this comes across argumentative, I don't intend that. I am just struggling to manage. And that my expectations are not how things happen is made obvious to me by other people every single day. You may be right, but there isn't any knowing. That's to me an illusion based on my wanting order and meaning that does not exist.
Awkward Aspie hugs for everyone in this thread
It's shocking when someone you respect discloses that they're suicidal. Shortly before my Dad passed, he disclosed to me that he had often felt suicidal. Very upsetting.
How do you even begin to console somebody that you look up to? Bet it isn't easy for NTs.

My post was made as an ordinary member. The fact I'm a moderator is irrelevant; so no worries regarding that.

It is possible you are right. Things may not turn out as I've bleakly suggested. It is just from this point in time, projecting ahead, unless something substantially changes the course of my life, then the likely outcome is that I will end up committing suicide. Until then I just live day to day. There are good days and bad days. Life is marginally worth living at the moment. The thing I do lack as I get older is any sense of purpose or ambition. I feel world weary like I've seen and done everything already and I have nothing to look forward to. Those things I used to enjoy or look forward to are slipping away due to failing health or other circumstances. I'd like to wake up in the morning and be full of joy and keen to do something... there are the occasional days like that but they are few and far between.

I look up to Tallyman as a person showing so much intelligence and compassion, but it is very easy to relate to what he writes. Though I did not think of suicide as a child, I am unsure I understood that I was alive yet.
Maybe because it's easy to relate is part of why I am always in trouble with people and no one will be my friend. I can only take what is said at face value. And most people can't seem to relate to that. Seems wrong to me to be disappointed in someone else expressing pain, I feel positively instead that Tallyman feels we are worth communicating with as I do when another person entrusts me with him or herself. It happens not a lot.
I meant what I wrote though. I only say what I mean, except if someone says or writes something that seems unkind and I'm trying to hold back from being nasty back at them. As accusations s always seem to get people doing things that hurt me.
Nothing is inevitable, not good, not bad either.
Tallyman I truly hope things turn around. I know they may. And I am grateful you chose to share and try to connect, it makes me feel I have maybe some value as a person, something that I'd stopped believing and can't seem to find my way back to. So thank you for that, it only lasts a moment, but that is something.
I understand. I did not see your response earlier, I am a bit slow to figure out what and how to say things. But yes, I do understand. Sometimes when things are very tough the pain is great, and knowing that suicide is an option provides that bit of comfort that allows us to go on.
I wish you and me both and every member on this thread some moment of joy today. They are so brief, so easily lost. And it hurts so much to feel joy and then return to sadness. But still I wish that for all of us.
I too wish you and everyone else who has posted in this thread some joy in your lives. Those moments seem all too fleeing sometimes. It all tends to take me back to Buddhism and Zen and the nature of life and suffering. I may return to being a monk again one day. Maybe that is the way to go - if some monastery would put up with an old cantankerous bugger like me!

First time I thought about it: f**k, as soon as I was conscious enough to perform self-reflection.
I also, when I was very little, used to pray to die every night.
I slit my wrists when I was twelve, but like a f*****g aspie, stopped to contemplate the tendons and musculature in my wrist, then realized I was too interested in the musculature to finish the job. I had been worried the hole wouldn't be wide enough, so I had been tearing at the skin close to my wrist, and got to see the tendons and muscles through the blood. It was so very pretty to see that I put down the Exacto blade and started to rotate my wrist to look at it. Then I cleaned up and decided to spend more time studying interesting things, because there are so many interesting things to see.
I've OD a few times, but I tell you it is damn hard to make that stick for me. I just vomit and wake up.
I won't kill myself as long as there are interesting things to learn or do, or as long as there is someone I'm responsible for because that would be monumentally selfish. When I run out, I'm probably outta here. I'm hoping that I've left a legacy of people I've helped and things I've made which will persist. As far as I'm concerned, there is no afterlife. The only real immortality to be had is in our acts toward others and the things we produce.
Ain't a force in the universe that can prevent me from making things or doing things for people, so I'll probably be around for awhile. But who knows? I'm willing to live in existential uncertainty and just keep creating things for people, but I'm not super fond of living.

The feels are shipped in by train once a week--Friday, I'm in love.
I was around 30 years old when I finally said f"ck it, I'm tired and I've went as far in life as I could. With cocaine already in my system from the night before, I washed down 48 sleeping pills with Michelob. The result? A stomach pumping in a local hospital followed by two solid months in a psych hospital.
I've been suicidal for a long time and am permanently depressed. I envy those who are happy and successful and wish it was me. It can't stay like this forever, though. I'm thinking I'll be like Tallyman. Somewhere along the way I'll take myself out by my own hands. It seems almost inevitable.

^^ I never envy people.
I see people who are living what could be considered as conventional lifestyles, and I sometimes pity them.
They've got mortgages and debt and commitment and all the s**t that I would consider absolute hell on earth.
I don't really know what happiness is to be honest.
I know what insanity is though, and that'll do for me, for now.
Suicide is a huge commitment, and I'm not the commitment type.
Not yet anyway. ![]()

we have existence
11 weeks ago, I did attempt suicide. I tried to overdose on meds we had lying around for headaches and such. I just get so tried of living with AS that it pisses me off. I don't go out except to get groceries or fast food. I have one friend who listens to me rant from time to time. I've been wondering what would become of my family if I did succeed. I know nobody would care if I did succeed. But on the other hand, I want to marry and have a family. But I don't think I can wait for that to happen any longer. I just want to be six feet under sometimes.

First time I contemplated it was probably when I was about 12 or 13.
I currently feel this way again but I can't do it because of cowardice, the impact it would have on family and just the fact that somebody is gonna find me before or after and have to clean it up.
I don't have good reasons for it. Half of the time I don't even have a reason at all and I still feel like I should. Other times it os because of my family and that just confuses me because it is just a vicious cycle at those times. I want to because of them but I don't want to because of them.
first time I considered it was around the age of 15. Second time was whenI was 18, took a bunch of prescription meds and alcohol. Woke up very sick the next day. Third time I stepped out in front of a semi-truck on a highway when I was hitch-hiking. He swerved, blew his loud horn, it scared me but it made my boyfriend at the time furious, and I decided to put it off for a while. I have a plan but I'm not talking about it - it'll happen if necessary, when necessary, and I will simply, quietly disappear.
For now I have some responsibilities to attempt to handle - which I continuously fail at - but will keep at them for now.
