Truth hurts. If someone says something hurtful to me, I think they're right unless I can prove them wrong
and I dare to do it to their face---or to a badass friend, partner or relative's face if appropriate.

They weren't afraid to acknowledge that only force can ultimately determine who is right---which is much the same as acknowledging life is not about who is right, but who is left. I learned about it quite late in my life and it's certainly shocking for someone who wouldn't stand a chance in a duel.
