I'm just about ready to leave this forum. I just got insulted over and over again in this thread, and now I just feel like the worst person ever. I wish I had never started posting on here. I should have just kept isolating myself.

I'm sorry you were hurt. I've never been brave enough to post anything in the ppr sub-forum. It's very scary there.
Good luck and stay safe.

the PPR forum is great if you don't take yourself too seriously. Just go to a forum that caters to your special interests, on WP or not and recharge your batteries. I used to frequent the about.com forums, where racial slurs and even death threats were allowed, so WP has always felt very safe for me.

I would like it very much if the WrongPlanet.net Politics, Philosophy, and Religion subforum were a little more like the age of reason where dissent is welcomed and explored, and less like Scientology where dissent is repudiated and scorned. Now, even moderators ignore the most egregious of rules violations. It appears to me to be getting worse.

I am a great admirer of the Enlightenment myself.

I like the Romantics, too--but I'm tuned in to the Enlightenment; whereas I am somewhat befuddled by Romanticism.

I have what is probably a romanticized understanding of the Romantic Period (no pun intended, but, hehe). It seems post-Enlightenment with an emphasis on civility at almost all costs. Very appealing as a social scheme.

I think of the Romantic period as the Golden Age of Dueling. And also of Drawing-Room Intrigue.

Seriously, any era has redeeming virtues--and the Romantic period is no exception. William Blake was a great liberating force in English letters.

Yes, very appealing. Courtesy is a dying art these days (including on WP sometimes  ).

When people make me feel horrible about myself, it's usually because they're right.

Truth hurts. If someone says something hurtful to me, I think they're right unless I can prove them wrong and I dare to do it to their face---or to a badass friend, partner or relative's face if appropriate.

They weren't afraid to acknowledge that only force can ultimately determine who is right---which is much the same as acknowledging life is not about who is right, but who is left. I learned about it quite late in my life and it's certainly shocking for someone who wouldn't stand a chance in a duel.

I have a feeling courtesy will become fashionable again--in reaction to the crassness of our recent days.

It might be better to stay away from the PPR forum for a while I don't comment on there unless a topic comes up that I feel strongly about.

There are plenty of threads on here that you might prefer.

I'm sorry you had this experience, Quiet Dove.

The mods try to allow freedom of expression on PPR. Evelyn Beatrice Hall, who wrote a biography on Voltaire, stated "I disagree with what you're saying, but will defend to the death your right to say it." What is against the forum rules are personal attacks / threats.

Sometimes members report a post where a suspected personal attack is seen, and the mods decide what action to take.(locking a thread or warning a user)

I nearly locked the thread under discussion, but unfortunately I only read the comments some time after the damage had already been done, as no mod can be online 24/7.

Believe me, I've seen really nasty, trollish stuff on NT news sites, and want no part of them.

We place a high value on mutual respect and freedom of expression. People on the spectrum tend to be thin skinned and some of us also tend to be very outspoken. We must bear with each other.

Yesterday (not on WP!) I was playing online Scrabble, one of my hobbies. I played a good bonus word (reexpose) for over 100 points and then the other player accused me of cheating and no-played me. So she created her own reality, suspecting me of using a word search program when I was using my brain. So I decided not to take it personally but seek another game and player.

People often use the anonymity of the Internet to vent whatever frustrations their day may have brought, as it's easier than picking a fight with their spouse or their cat.

Anyway, as others have said, avoid PPR whenever possible.

In my experience, it appears that there is no definition of an "attack."

PPR is chaos and mostly people arguing about definitions even though if they read would agree on having the same opinion about the matter.

Why bother to read whatever your opponent might have to say? It wastes your time and benefits them.

That is why I stay away from the politics and religion forum. There is always going to be something that offends someone, whether it's racist, sexist or homophobic. You have to be so careful with what you say. I don't mean you personally, it's just the way the world has got now. Ridiculous, I know.
Like I've learnt here to never consider Aspies ''normal'', because when I did start a thread about that, I offended almost everyone on this forum. So I just consider myself normal without sprouting it on WP. It's the only way I can feel better about myself, and feel more normal too.
