I just don't actually like online friendships at all surprisingly, always disliked the idea. I like real life friendships more.

Anyway, I almost never message anyone here ever and even when I do, I don't reply too much to any follow up discussions.

My inbox is and almost always has been at 0 for like the last 6 months now.

Only reason I still come here is discussion and socializing and trying to help each other out really.

All I wanted to say is, don't hold out on the hope that people will naturally be drawn to you on this site and you'll eventually make some friends. I've got a few 'acquaintances' but little more beyond that.

Make an effort...

Make an effort...?! WHAT?!
Do you have any idea what I've put myself through?!
Insanity. Excruciating insanity...

But, what do I want from socialization? To be accepted and admired? Why is that so important to me? Why can't I just remove that need from myself? It makes no logical sense. Just thinking aloud here, rather than making any attempt at factual statements, but I guess most people would say that if everybody else ignored them, they'd feel like they didn't exist, which would be like experiencing death. So I suppose the need to be social is born out of the need for recognition in another that you do exist. Socializing is a reassurance that you are alive in this world and that you can identify as a human being because the other person is experiencing the same weird sensation of consciousness filtered through the human experience as you are. It's about making that connection.

So the tormenting emotion that you feel is presumably one of fear, the fear of death or loss of the sense of self. The more people you know and spend time with, the more you become a person. That is the need of the ego.

Maybe the problem for those of us on the spectrum is that we do have more of a suspicion that the sense of self, as limited to this human body, is an illusion. So socializing never feels quite right because it is a pretense. It's playing at being human.

How can I be interesting to them? I have nothing to offer. Or, do I?
Their lack of interest in you demonstrates your lack of interesting aspects.

TheCoolStoryBro wrote:
Why is everyone else so interesting and not me? They have nothing interesting to say either. What's so interesting about them?
Maybe they play instruments or are talented in some other form of artistic expression. Maybe they listen more than they talk, while paying attention to what other people have to say. Maybe they don't spend their days online, going on about how interesting they think they are.

A lot of the things I talk to myself about are very interesting in my opinion ... I look in the mirror, and I see that I am very attractive, but it's not good enough for anyone.
Well, of course you think you are interesting! Stop admiring yourself and find out what other people like. After all, the world is not all about you!

These are all interesting subjects. Just because they're not all talking about you does not make these subjects any less interesting. In fact, it just proves that these subjects are more interesting to them than you!

I'm going to say something that will probably come off as very harsh, but I believe it needs to be said. I see so many posts like this from folks who feel they are being ignored, and are not getting the recognition they desire. I certainly understand feeling socially isolated and the thirst of human connection. But you have to let relationships develop slowly. Would you walk into a crowd of strangers and except to be hugged and accepted? Of course not!

Being too needy is always a mistake. Cultivate some self-esteem before trying to connect with people. Never look to others to fill a void in your life. You'll build longer lasting and more valuable friendships if you heed that advice.

Not coming off as harsh, no worries. I'm not sure what to expect from strangers. I'm not sure how I would build self esteem of the social variety. I put a lot of importance into how I look, and I'm fairly confident with that despite a few flaws. I don't know how to communicate effectively. At all. Small talk is impossible. My life is entirely video games, shows, music, exercise, psychology. I don't know what to talk with people about, I can't think of anything at all.

Feeling needy is not something I can stop without having the void filled. If I don't feel that I need something, I ignore it entirely. If I want something, it becomes need, especially when said desire is very far out of reach, but not so far as to say it's completely impossible, just extremely unlikely to succeed without repetitive severe injuries. I'm not even sure what I want from people socially. Why do I want acceptance? I don't really know. I don't mind going slow, but not getting anywhere at all I cannot stand.

I had a few so called friends when I was a kid, but all we did was play video games, and that's all. Long ago, I had a girlfriend one time for awhile, and she watched her favorite shows repetitively, and I played video games, and we went out to eat and watch movies, and there was not much communication other than how we felt so similar somehow (I didn't know what Autism was back then). However, she was not like me. She was on another side of The Spectrum.

I don't know what I'm doing. I'm doing everything wrong and I can't figure out the right way to do anything. No one will tell me. They tell me to figure it out myself, because they say there is no formula. I'm doing everything I can possibly do to figure things out without completely destroying myself, and I am going nowhere but down. And, it leads me to think that I have to completely destroy myself in order to prove to myself that there is absolutely no hope for me.

To be so desperate means I am sure to fail with people. If I have a simple want, it becomes intense need instantly. There is no stopping it. It's always been this way for every second of my life. If I don't want something, I want absolutely nothing to do with it. If I were to remove my desire for socialization, I would never bother trying.

But, what do I want from socialization? To be accepted and admired? Why is that so important to me? Why can't I just remove that need from myself? It makes no logical sense. There's no logical reason for any of it. It's all emotion, and it feels like it's completely pointless other than to satisfy the emotions that ceaselessly torment me.

I don't have any sort of advice to give, but I did want to say that this completely sums me up and I understand where you're coming from. It sucks.

Not sure how I would know that when I've been isolated for more than 5 years.

I think other people are extremely interesting. I hate talking about myself, I like to hear others talk, not myself.

That's cool. Nothing wrong with that.

I like sunny weather. I like rainy weather and thunder storms. I'm not a fan of cloudy weather without rain.
I rarely go on vacation to places... I assume vacation means travel for some reason.

I'm sorry, I was feeling extremely over stimulated when I was saying those things, random over-generalizations.

I definitely suspect the self to be an illusion. I feel like all that I am is the senses, and they will do as they will, and I will observe the senses, and feel their strain and enjoyment, and I take the blame and credit for everything my senses do. I suspect my individual ego to not be my own, but a part and product of everyone else's ego and the environment.

I fear rejection. I rarely even attempt to be accepted by people, I've been avoiding people entirely for about 5 years out of fear of rejection. I feel that I exist through my senses, but I don't feel that I am my senses. I rarely get to have the enjoyment of empathy with another, unless I see or hear a story about someone who has been through what I have been through.

I still don't understand why I want to be connected with someone like minded.
It's like my senses simply want to merge with theirs. I don't know why. Maybe it's an innate survival mechanism.

Knowing that failure is inevitable, I cannot attempt to be accepted out of fear of over stimulation from rejection.
Under-stimulation from isolation is a problem too, but can be fixed temporarily with preoccupations.

I feel the same actually.

Also, I'm sorry about my last post in response to you, I was stressing out really hard.
Hostile attribution bias is a problem that I have.

That goes for Fnord too. I'm sorry. I'm still a little sore though.
I was perceiving a personal attack, and I reacted, and then I perceived that you reacted, and I reacted again.
You do have a good point, that people need to find you interesting in some way if you want to be accepted.

Why would being ignored be a bad thing ? I, personally, dislike being interrupted when I'm busy focusing on something. Also, I ignore people all the time, not because I have anything against them, but because I have already busied myself with something, and typically want to get things done before I set aside any kind of social-time for people (I can live & have found that I prefer to live on my own by myself without other people around who seem to be unable to keep themselves out of problems & expect me to somehow magically be able to solve everything for them & somehow remove their problems as-if though I had some sort of magical-powers to make others' problems vanish into thin-air).

Anyway, for purposes of receiving attention, I think it would be better for you to participate in community activities, get to know some of the people in your community, and offer your help to anybody that you can find who may need your assistance, and you will probably find that there will be people within your community who keep-in-touch with you. You also need to keep in mind that with attention comes the aspect of what kind of public-reputation you end up establishing. For example, I became really famous on-line several years ago, with one of my You-Tube videos getting over two million views in less than a year, but with more attention also comes a wide variety of how you receive said attention, and yes, both positive & negative are mixed with attention if you're getting LOTS of attention (like I did), and as you can see here from the responses within this very thread alone by itself, you should probably ready & prepare yourself to be able to handle all kinds of attention (including negative ones), before trying to put yourself into any heavy spot-light.

I was thinking the same thing for the past 24 hours or so.
They say, if you can't handle the worst, you can't handle the best.
I can't seem to handle the worst. I don't know the best very well at all.
PewDiePie, for example, is very popular, but gets more hate than any other youtuber.

I don't know of any community activities I could do.
I wish I could help people, I do try to help, but it's not usually helpful for them from what I can see.
Sometimes it is helpful for them though, and it's a great feeling to help people.
Sometimes I don't help people effectively though, and it will sometimes only makes things worse.

It probably is that.
Like most people you're likely to be driven at an unconscious level to find a partner and maybe reproduce, but there's a cognitive dissonance that tells you otherwise, that such a scenario would be impossible because of x, y and z.

For me at least, that need for a partner led to the need to socialize a bit, because it occurred to me that I'd have a better chance of finding a partner if I had at least one or two friends. Which kind of worked, in that my situation became a little 'less weird' and less off-putting when I became desperate enough to place myself in the shop window, which occurred at the point when I realised that the friends I'd briefly made were beginning to drift away from me. Once I found a girlfriend, I didn't feel the need to socialize or have friends anymore. I got everything I needed from her.

I felt the same way when I had a girlfriend. No one else mattered to me.
My anxiety and depression were completely dormant when I was with her.

5 years ago, I had an online female friend once that I spoke to on the phone a lot, and she had the same effect on me.
Her parents sent her to a job training place where she could not use the phone, and some other girl was aggressively and obviously flirting with me online, and I ended up in a brief and terrible online relationship with her. When my online friend was gone, all of my anxiety and depression came back, and my online relationship was making it worse.

My online friend was the nicest person I've ever known, and I still miss her, but once the other girl was clearly accepting me, and my friend was not sure if she wanted me or not for a relationship, I lost interest in her, and completely focused on the girl that definitely wanted me. When I was with the other girl, my friend was showing signs of being attracted to me, but they were too vague. After I ceased the online relationship 5 years ago, I have been extremely isolated.

Nah this place doesn't suck, what kind of social skills do you expect? High expectations usually leads to disappointment
