Yeah, on and off again since I was like 10, I always wanted to just wake up one day on the shore of the sea in Valinor. That did coincide with the theatrical release of the Return of the King in 2003. I wanted that for a long time, to just escape. When I got older I got more realistic with it. When I was 17 there were a few instances where I almost just hopped in my car and just drove off into the unknown. I even had a runaway pack always packed with my little trinkets and thinks in my closet. It was just last year that I found it again while going through my stuff and finally unpacked it. Around 18 till even now I still kind of have a plan if things go really south. I plan to go off Christopher McCandles style and just head west. I don't intend to go into the deep wilderness though, just more or less live out of my car and work odd jobs on the very fringe of society and maybe still even go full wilderness after some point. Even when times are good something about just disappearing sounds enticing. The open endless road is mesmerizing.

Same here. I live in imaginary world's that my mind has constructed. My body may be here but my mind is often in another world. It is how I've coped through all the s**t I have been through. Dissociating from the world around me.

The "home" I'm into right now is just a kind of a very familiar place, with a more predictable setting than a welcoming one. It's more of an ownership than an attachment.

I do long for that "home" that makes me feel welcome and belonged. I too feel the same most at the time.
Even those who welcome and include me are present, I don't feel any relief of this longing. They're just there, telling me things. And even if I sincerely appreciate it, that unsatisfied feeling is still there.

I don't understand the question. My imaginary world is constructed of Lego. What I build in reality adds to my fantasy world in my head. So I guess my only plans are to acquire and build more Lego? I usually deal with it by telling no one else about it because they would just write me off as crazy. I figure that since this is an Autism forum, I feel safe enough to share my thoughts on this matter. I spend a lot of time in my head because real life is so painful and often miserable and unbearable to me.

Yes, I know what you mean. So would any artist, and the majority of people on WP. We're just down here on a visit.

There's an old saying: 'Home is where you've not yet been'.

So we have to keep searching. Which is hard.

There's nowhere to escape to, as you bring your brain with you wherever you go.

I often want to escape from the working world. I hate being somewhere where I am told what to do, having to fake a positive attitude when you really don't like your job, and wasting your life having to go somewhere you don't want to go just to earn a bit of money to survive. I just wish I could win millions of pounds on the lottery, because then the first thing I would do is give up work. I know life might get lonely sometimes but I won't get bored, as I would make up my own routine and structure, and I will have more time to see my friends.

See, a lot of people actually prefer to be working, despite how much people groan about their job. Not all, but most NT people prefer to be occupied, have rules and boundaries, and earn money and be interacting with people all day. But I am a little different to the majority. I am more independent-minded and creative, and I will be much happier to have less pressure in my life. I do wish I could win the lottery. That would solve all my problems.

So sometimes I do want to hide away. When it's my day off, I put off seeing my friends, just so I can stay indoors and not have to go out and face the world. I feel like this mostly in the winter.

Sorry to gabble on, but it's just the way I'm feeling at the moment. Emotionally drained, fed up at work, anxious about finding a new job, and just on edge when I go into work. I'm sick of it. I need to get away from it all. I'm so fed up and depressed at work. Makes me wonder what life's all about, when I'm FORCED to be somewhere I don't want to be, doing work I'm not in the least bit interested in, having to put on a happy front and have a positive attitude when I feel the exact opposite, and when the vomiting bug season comes having to clear up diarrhea and vomit after patients. It grosses me out. But when I express how I feel about my Emetophobia, they just look at me and ask why I'm working there. The answer to that is that I'm always advised not to leave until I have found another job. So I'm just stuck really. And that feeling or being stuck makes me more depressed.

In real terms though music is my great escape, I get lost in songs so easily, I'll lose hours each day just listening to it. I can become anyone in a song. I actually start to get anxious after about an hour of not hearing anything.

heya, nothing to be sorry...say whatever you want ,i guess that's what WP is for.
I experienced the same same work issues before..At time that I couldnt take it anymore I quit. I could only care less about what other people think of me when my sanity is in danger. I let myself heal and it took me quite a few months. Of course the consequences are inescapable, i live with my parents now and am almost broke. Though im in fulltime-job-hunting now.
