Grammar Nazis can go screw themselves for all I care.
Recent papers that I've gotten back I've got As and Bs on, so telling someone off for one little typo isn't going to hurt anyone.

Grammar is my passion, if you can't tell from my username and avatar, but I don't correct people online unless they correct someone's grammar and make a mistake of their own. I work as an editor, so I get to do plenty of correcting during the day. I used to have a big problem correcting teachers; luckily, I've pretty much been able to overcome that. I'm yet to find a person with whom I can have an in-depth discussion about grammar.

I don't get it either. Just as long as you could understand what the word was, why does it matter?

If a post is so badly written because they had too many CAPS or too many misspelled words or text speak, I will just skip over it than making a fuss.

The ironic thing is this grammar nazi thing has been connected to autism but yet lot of us are admitting in this thread how annoying they are.

I was a copy editor in college. Grammar is a fun topic, but I don't know how to have an in depth discussion about it. I do have a board on Pinterest with pins of articles about editing and proofreading.

typos are one thing - easily overlooked, but things such as your and you're, i will correct if it's someone i'm close to. i'd want to know if it were me.

I want to find someone with whom I could talk about the debatable points of grammar, like the Oxford Comma, apostrophes with words ending in "s," and what should be hyphenated and what shouldn't. There's a plethora of topics that I would love to talk for hours about.

We both know you are not and I stand by my original comment on that. Hyphenated words are my blind spot.

I do have an opinion on all of those things. I still don't know how to have a conversation about them. I found some good articles that talk about those topics, some of which I happen to agree with. It was originally a compliment that you could actually talk about grammar in that way.

They just do that to be a**holes, either that or they are disgruntled English Professors venting online because their wife left them! So they vent by treating each onlines post like an assignment due on Tuesday.

That is true. So long as the person is not writing in incomprehensibly then it is not a huge deal. If someone mispells something I continue on reading because so long as I understand what they're saying, then okay. I make writing mistakes too.

Here is something that really grinds my gears, semantics. People using them to pick a fight with me and to accuse me or judge me just because I didn't word something correctly under their standard and they also do it to argue because they get so hung up over a darn word. Oh for god's sake.

Semantics means "word meanings".

It can be important, or it can be nitpicking.

If you mean "peaches", but keep calling them "pears" when you talk about them it can be confusing to the listener. And you need someone to step in and correct you.

Someone found my sentence unacceptable just because I said assume instead of suspicions.

I looked those two words up and they had similar meanings.

It's number 75. I was talking about personal experience and he basically called me a liar by accusing me of being stereotypical when he didn't know I was talking about what I have seen people do online regarding them expressing their opinion about people on welfare. But really, how is "assume" and "suspicions" any different in that sentence? I could say you are chubby or fat or big and they all mean the same thing. "Oh I saw a fat person so I had my suspicions she over eats and doesn't work out because she is lazy" or "I saw a fat lady so I assume she over eats and doesn't work out because she is lazy." So now I write "suspicions/assumptions" because some people are just picky just like how I will write "fetish/kink/lifestyle/hobby" when I talk about ABDL because some get offended over the word fetish or kink just because it's not sexual for them even though it's listed as one so they try and redefine it. For them it's a hobby or lifestyle so I say it that way so everyone is happy. I do do it to be snarky to be honest.

I'll state for the record I've always been terrible whenever I've written posts here on wp or any other web forum that matter due to my poor use of punctuation and many other language protocols as such. Though, I sincerely do try to convey my point(s) as accurately and comprehensively as possible but, often such does not turn out to good. I hope this post made reasonable sense?
