I am anti-med because I have seen psych meds damage people and I have had bad experiences myself on psych meds. Which med would you go on? If you do try it, start at the lowest possible dosage. If you keep having to increase the dose because there's no effect, I would get off them asap.

Aside from the seemingly harmless but psychoactive ibuprofen, I am rather drug resistant and usually end up taking 3/2 the standard dose before there is a noticeable benefit.

Some people are fast drug metabolizers so to keep blood levels high they need higher doses.

I have low blood sugar, but I think it has something to do with my body producing too much insulin.

Good luck with whatever your choice - without knowing too much about your medical history, I can't really advise ;) Although, in general, anti-depressants are a good idea if you've been depressed for a long time.

From my personal experiences, I can only say that don't rely completely upon the drugs to help your depression - if you're seeing a therapist regularly, make sure there's a plan to help you with coping skills.

Also, if you feel that something's wrong while on the drug, let your doctor know. I remember trying to ride out the effects of one anti-depressant but instead it drove me almost off the edge.

Prozac fixed me many years ago.

Despite its effectiveness i have been reluctant to go back on it even though it would have saved me some hardship.
Mainly because i think most of my depressive periods have been the cause of other people. It does help for the OCD and socail phobia though.
If i get bad again, then i will go back on it without too much thought. I've tried other methods and they have been mainly a waste of time and energy.
I can understand your reluctance though; don't see why i should take pills just because my brain functions differently. Only when necessary.

I think when depression reaches a level where you have constant thoughts of suicide and start seeing suicide as a practical solutions to your problems then popping a pill
is a wise idea.

Absolutely. My cut-off point is when i start to cry for no reason (think i've cried about 4 times in the last twenty years, that includes valid reasons).
So i'm straight off to the doctors, if that happens.

That's sort of how I see it. What haven't I tried:
1) Antidepressants
2) Suicide

Which one should I try first?

Finally got my mother's input on the subject. She never said it was a dumb idea so I've decided to go ahead with it.
