Luckily the actual city the one I want to go to is the capital of the state, and there's other Meetup.com groups and such.
If you're moving to a state capital in Australia then, after you're 18, you might want to consider applying for the Specialisterne program.

They take aspies 18 and over. Your salary will be between $40,000 and $65,000 per year, depending on the hours you work.

It could be a good place for your to makes friends instead of university. It worked for me.

I found my friends in the first month of University, we lived on the same floor and took part in the floor activities and government. I joined a club and found another social group that way, though I eventually left it. I only ever became half friends with a guy from my classes. Could have done better if I hadn't been so thorny in the academic setting.
So did you keep your university friends after you graduated or did you have to find new friends?

Sort of, I haven't graduated, they did. I'm on academic dismissal for a semester so I haven't had a chance to even try for new friends. Doubtful I'll find more, the dorms were the only reason we ever met. We're pretty spread out now, we've only met up once since the split in December. For all practical purposes I have no friends now and am alone again. That's adult life though, close friends are rare to keep or to be in constant direct contact with anyways.

Good news for you Outrider, Brisbane is one of the cities they operate in. Last year they recruited for a team in Brisbane so they should be taking applications for Brisbane team number 2 sometime within the next two years.
