Also, I fail at reading comprehension... Somehow I thought the situation with the cat, and the park, meant you were interacting outside therapy, but now I realize I misread that, sorry!
Yeah, it could just be ego, or - some other baffling reason, why people behave the way they do... But I'm sorry that happened, and agree it's confusing and discouraging when you thought you could count on a stable, ongoing therapy situation, but then it falls through.
