That happened to me once, in my teens. It wasn't a dark figure though, it was a light figure, and I was looking around my room, trying to convince myself "oh, that's just the clothes hamper, or something draped over the vacuum cleaner". Finally, I snapped out of it and flicked on the light switch, and there was nothing there at all, except the family dog who was sniffing the area where it had been standing.

Most ghost stories that I've heard, sightings tend to be opaque. A lot of photographs that catch spirits, though, do tend to be translucent. Sometimes it's hard to say what's really being captured, though.

What kind of spirit channeling?

Not necessarily, spirits do tend to move around. I'm fairly certain that no one ever died in our house, but we've had plenty of strange things happen, where it seems like some wayward spirit is just passing through, never to be heard from again.

My friend, when he was younger, his family had to move several times, and they had a very powerful poltergeist who would follow them to each new home. When he was older, he would intentionally do stupid things like go ghost hunting and invite the spirits home with him

When I used to channel spirits I would just call the name of the person and kind of draw in their aura. I would then feel their aura and hear the voices talking to me in my head.

Yeah Ive seen ghosts before and they were translucent. So I guess I just had a very creepy waking dream. I hope this doesnt happen again.

We are getting a whopper of a storm: probably 30-40 cm of snow.

You folks in Nova Scotia will probably get less than 10 cm, with some ice pellets (sleet) and freezing rain.

I'm glad you finally got a good sleep.

Like people you used to know who have died? Or people you've heard about? Or just trying different names?

All the ones I've seen have been opaque. Maybe it depends on how much energy they are using, but it's hard to say what the "rules" are when there's not really a way to scientifically study the supernatural. All I know is that mine definitely were not dreams. Even the one that I mentioned, I was pretty wide awake, sitting up, and had been talking with my brother for a while before I looked over and noticed it.

Maybe it was a night terror? My ex would have them all the time, and she had a lot of them where she would see a shadow person watching her.

I don't know if you're religious at all, but you could try blessing the house, and praying for any lost souls who might be there. I've done it a few times, and it usually works. Much easier than finding someone to do an exorcism for you ;)

Sorry. You did say that it was an old Victoria building. Maybe she is a young girl who died their a 100 plus years ago. And can research records and ...maybe find her name. Like Ezra, I am a kind of "interested skeptic" about the paranormal.

It’s just a jinn. Ignore it and it will go away.
They like to scare people.
It amuses them.
We learned about this in our textbooks in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. We were taught stuff (called ruqyah) to protect ourselves but you can’t really do much to make it go away.

I am aware I will sound crazy to many people.

I actually HAD to move out of my last house (about 15 min from my new home) because of this. My brother mom and dad wd regularly have to drive over and help me as odd and frightening things were happening they wd recite Ruqyah all night (taking turns)
Toys spinning, drawers slamming open (waking baby), boxes (empty cartons piled in a corner) being toppled/smacked against wall.

My son’s nurse Irene had also witnessed some man (shadow of) multiple times as well as my youngest brother (who refused to visit after he saw that). I never saw anything but after the toys spinning and drawer thing I was convinced
