Sorry that happened, Sarah. :(

The days when people put “roots” into a community seem to be long over. New opportunities present themselves, and people follow those opportunities to find new jobs, etc. I think this is one of the reasons people are less friendly too each other, they know that there’s little chance there’d be some long term friendship/relationship.

My son had a friend who lived right across the street from him. This kid was actually the first child my son met when we moved to where we are now. The boy would come over and play and did so for almost 5 years. About a week ago, and without telling us, they moved to the nearby city. The kid is still going to my son’s school for the rest of this year, so it’s not like they were just suddenly cut off, but still....

Maybe you could join a church or something where you’d have the opportunity to meet new people?

What I would do is leave him a note offering to trade help when it's needed. Like if he helps you with your toilet, you'll help him clean or move things or whatever. You don't have to know how to do anything. Offers of assistance are always appreciated. I'm helping my neighbor move soon and I am going to miss her.

The note could say: Hey it's ___your neighbor, I would like to ask you if you would be okay with the idea of trading "neighbor favors. Like maintenance/repair type stuff that would otherwise cost money. I can't unclog the toilet. I would be happy to help you with anything I can in return.

I wish I could help you cause I am good with computers.
