You have to do something.

Not all of these sorts of people are bad.

I think you need a hug more than anything else.

I’m glad you didn’t do something drastic.

Thank you. But I have clarity and calm since I decided to give up (last night).
It's still a bad world that I have to fix over, and over, and over ...

I shouldn't say that to somebody who probably has it tougher than me.

None of those people are bad, they're very nice.

But this time I made arrangements and maybe
it'll work and maybe it won't. Again.

I think it'll work this time.

I can sense it.

I'm ok thanks, Sly.
Cranky and similar words would apply to me.
Negative attitude toward Things as they come to my attention.
But grateful for friends like you and all here.

Also grateful for chocolate milk, cherries, gingersnaps, and banana.

Maybe I should do deep research on my relationship with food.
Do you remember the episode of Cheers where Sam & Herself speculate on food vs sex?

All chime in :jester:

What's overly complicated about your taxes vs. basic filing requirements?

There are plenty of professionals who do such paperwork for about $75. There are also plenty of home based businesses that prepare taxes for less. You might even find a student willing to do it for $40-50.

I know this was just the last straw in a series of stresses, but late filed taxes in and of themselves aren't a problem worth dying over. Life goes on whether you file your taxes or not.. I didn't file mine for ~4 years, filed 3 late last year, and still haven't done 2017's nor a handful of years of some MSP form. The sun still rises & sets daily. Yes, I know you need to file yours to continue receiving benefits, so, resolve to solve that problem.. pay someone to do it for you - even if you put it on a credit card and then never ever pay the bill; who cares? Problem solved, benefits paid, life goes on.

Aspiring Accountant? Can you spell bankruptcy? A whirling confusion of what money belongs to whom during an interlude breaking up the 12 months. Being warned by gov't not to try to do such complicated taxes myself. And even that wasn't the blow. It was having believed my taxes were filed on the due date. I find out now they were not. Just as I stand up believing it's over and I survived, an e-mail arrives and knocks me flat *again*.

B A N K R U P T C Y - there, done. I have no intentions of becoming an accountant. My forum signature is a reference to the movie "The Accountant," starring Ben Affleck. I did graduate from business school when I was 19, though. And I was bankrupt myself ~6 years ago. So, I know about these things. I've gone through them.

So phone/email whoever contacted you about unfiled taxes and tell them that you were under the impression that a professional had already prepared and filed them & that you will follow up with said person and find out what went wrong. Then contact that person and find out what happened and ask them to finish doing the work they were paid to complete.

I truly feel the government, in this case, made it complicated for her. They didn't provide this information in a timely manner. This didn't give her a chance to rectify the matter earlier.

They tend to send hysterical letters saying they're going to "cut this" and "cut that." They do this because there are lots of screw-ups on "benefits" who do truly take advantage of the system. The government can be bitchy like that.

They want to make sure she doesn't take advantage of the system, either. They become overvigilant, and don't take into account the lives of individual people who are not trying to screw the system.

They just might be the ones who will have to assist her in "fixing" all this. This sort of thing happens to elderly people all the time---people who don't deserve this.

That's the b***h about being on "benefits." It often bites you in the butt like this.

I've done all that. And they've done all that they're supposed to do. Next step: I give them money. I have none. Some day I will pay them and then they'll file tax return to gov't. But my benefits will be dead because the Benefit Dept uses the $ on Line 150 of the (unfiled) return(s) which does not exist.. thud.

Like I said before, put it on credit if at all possible & then never pay the bill. Or simply ask for all of your documents back and do it yourself. If that's not an option, take all of those documents into Service Canada, wait in line, explain your situation, and someone there who's getting paid to help people all day will either help you or direct you to someone who will.

I wonder if this website would help:

protecteurducitoyen.qc.ca

If not immediately, it's a start.

I understand it's complicated.

There's another website:

montrealfamilyties.net.

Hi Claradoon. I am glad you are still here.

I screwed up my tax filing this year, too. Our refund kept not arriving so I looked into it, it turns out my e-filing was not completed before the deadline (when I thought it had been). So now I have filed late. Have not heard from the government yet but I suppose they will fine me eventually.

I'm not on benefits, so it's a somewhat different situation. I'm just letting you know this can happen to anyone. Good luck.
