What causes your uncle to act this irrationally? Concluding things before he knows the whole story?

He comes back over here congratulating us on how well we cleaned up the place then saying he just did it to "motivate" us. Uggghhh.... My husband especially doesn't like his methods....

Now we started arguing with them again because our fridge broke and I don't think anyone cares because my uncle has his camper and is not staying over here, even though my husband has insulin! They just told us to start throwing out everything and without the food in the fridge we won't make it food wise through the month either. We don't have the money to buy a fridge so I really don't know what to do.

Here's some suggestions.

1. Pull the fridge out from the wall and vacuum the coils on the back. Sometimes that's all that is needed to restore function.

2. If that fails, go to Craigslist for your area. I saw two or three fridges and minifridges between $40 and $125.

3. Have you made friends with any of your neighbors in the park? Possibly one would promise to store the insulin on a short-term basis.

Notice how none of these suggestions contains the word UNCLE?

Personally, I know nothing about refrigeration, nor the mechanics of them, but from what it sounds like it's just like an internet modem, just power it off, give it a quick air blow, power it on and it resets basically. At least that's what it sounds like to my layman's ears. I hope that works for the OP, because that sounds like the best conclusion to this problem.

The 30 bucks I got left is for gas. The only neighbors I know are relatives and I just got out of a fight with my cousin who won't even agree to store my husbands insulin and blamed us for the problem. We got 60 left in food stamps and my cousin claims we can survive the rest of the month on that.

Whatever you do, do not cry uncle.

Food insecurity is awful. :(

I highly suggest you try Bea's first solution. It may not work, but if it does you've got your refrigerator back and all it cost you was 10 minutes of your time.

We moved the fridge to do as you suggested and it spontaneously kicked back on! Hmmm??? Hope it stays on.

Well to me that sounds like an electrical short somewhere (which is probably how the vacuum trick works-- cleans the connections so the electronics can make contact with each other again). I'd still vacuum the hell out of it though, just for 'maintenance', especially if it's already moved from the wall. The good news is that your refrigerator is working, the bad news is you've now peeked behind your refrigerator and now you're probably questioning how you could possibly eat anything that's ever been stored there again.

My relatives found a fridge and are going to replace this one later today. My husband left a nasty message however and they are saying he wasn't very nice (I tried to talk to them nice, though my cousin was rediculous)

This time they are angry with husband, not me. My uncle however says it's his house and his decision whether to replace items. My husband though angerly was saying he payed rent here so he has the right to a working fridge.

If the appliance is currently working, even if just temporarily, that allows you some time to just chill out a bit until cooler heads can come around. You may make more progress with less frustration if you wait a day to come back to the subject with your relatives. Again, if the refrigerator is currently working, you're not in imminent danger of spoiling food/insulin, so you have the luxury to wait for tensions to be eased.

My uncle bought a different fridge, but the old one is working now so he's waiting to see if it fails again. It seems like the fridge has a short. Food doesn't seem spoiled.
