Personally, I know nothing about refrigeration, nor the mechanics of them, but from what it sounds like it's just like an internet modem, just power it off, give it a quick air blow, power it on and it resets basically. At least that's what it sounds like to my layman's ears. I hope that works for the OP, because that sounds like the best conclusion to this problem.
