I've seen how crazy customers can get with an employee over something that is not even the employee's fault.

I could never work in any kind of customer service job.

Just say, "I'm not sure about that, let me take you to the gun counter and they can help you there." That would be good customer service. That would be giving them what they want.

I've worked with customers. If I didn't know the answer to a question I didn't just bluff it, I'd take them to someone who could help.

I’d didn’t bluff, I took the. Over and said this is the only ammo with 250 in the name we have. Then I took them to the gun counter to have them try to look up what caliber his rifle is.

Issue is they all seemed to think I should known 250 savage exists and he didn’t mean that his gun was a model 250 by savage, which could use any round.

Example. My savage model mk2 comes in 22lr, 22 mag, and 17hmr. So simple saying I have a savage mk2 what ammo does it take is impossible to know.

How can I stop doing what I haven't yet started?

I've gotten quite good at guessing what the customer wants. Better than the NTs who I work with. But, it is a lot like working out. Time spent studying and finding answers does make a difference.

Ah, I see. I got confused by all the gun terms there. I didn't understand what you meant.

I can't talk in public, and it isn't usually a problem if there's nothing I need. I just try to keep my head down, try not to look at anyone, pretend to be interested in something next to me and point or nod/shake my head if I need to.

Some people might think you don't know the language or that you're deaf. I think people think I'm rude, but they might not think you are.

i find myself unable to talk russian sometimes (which is my mothertongue). my spoken english is awful, with thick accent and weird pauses, but it gets easier. guess because most of trauma i had received had been in russian. trying to fix it. tho, the most basic stuff, like talking to a cashier in the store (thank you, no thank you, have a good day) doesnt cause much trouble xD

That's what I've done when I worked retail. I did custodial stuff thou so most people may of been more accepting of me not knowing. It's not like I was a stocker.

Ideally, you would be able to ask a question like "what are you looking for?"
Then, if you can help them, you help them. But, if they ask for something outside your expertise, like the best bullet for a particular gun, you just explain that you just stock the shelves, and excuse yourself/go back to stocking the shelves. And, if they press you to be an expert, then you explain that you would like to be one, but just can't afford to on what they pay you. NTs would also throw in nasty body language if it got to that point.

Yep. I've never worked customer service, but I've seen other people do that. Or they'll ring someone up for you, or just get the manager, or what have you.

Sometimes I have the opposite problem. I sometimes find it hard to talk to strangers due to shyness.
