If you make more then $1,180 you’ll lose social security. I have to be careful. Especially since min wage keeps going up here, eventually I’ll have to quit.
Is that how much you can make on SSI or SSDI :?: The federal minimum wage hasn't gone up in a long time & won't go up again till we have a president change.

The COLA is going up next year but my girlfriend won't see it because her Section 8 & food-stamps will be reduced to compensate. If I did my math correctly, I'll be getting an extra $24 or $25 a month. However my Comcast bill will go up, maybe so will my Verizon bill & maybe the Medicare Extra Help program will have a slightly higher copay for prescriptions so I won't really see that extra $25.

The GOP LOVES to complain about people on welfare programs but they refuse to do a damned thing to help them get off the programs other than making the programs harder to get & reducing what they pay. If the government would actually invest in helping people be independent & self sufficient, it will save them money in the long run. It's like the saying goes~ Give a man a fish & he'll eat for a day but teach a man to fish & he'll eat for a lifetime. Plus it'll help the economy which will help big business & the government could collect more revenue from taxes.

Ssi is more complicated. Roughly they take half minus 85 into consideration. Like I don’t get any ssi cause I make too much. I get my medical insurance from ssi, which means if I go over $1,180 or I’ll lose that too, it also means since ssi doesn’t allow savings over $2000 I can’t save much. Ssdi doesn’t care if you save it doesn’t care how much yiur cars worth etc, just how much you make. If you start working eventually you’ll be moved to ssdi as yiu get enough work credits. That’s what happen to me.

My states min wage goes up .50 every year I believe. It’s 10.75 now and in 2022 it’ll be 13.50 I make 11.58 an hour. So if I was able to work 20 hours I’d make too much 2-3 times a year. As is I’ll be close, so I’ll probably have to ask for unpaid Time off thos months. Cause it’ll be $1,111 but there could be holiday pay that brings it up.
So I may have to quit next year or year after
I kinda know how a bit how SSI works cuz I was on it while working. I was allowed to make alittle more than the $85 because of transportation expenses. I cant drive & public transportation was limited so my parents had to bring me to & from work. I was supposed to give them alittle extra for that. It was estimated that I worked 5 days thou some weeks I worked 4 when I was part time but other times I worked 6. I know I made more than that amount some months but I still had my disabilities & other months I made less so I just didn't get SSI for the months I made too much or I owed them. I kept my Medicaid till I got on Social Security Disability. I lost it cuz I was no longer on SSI & you have to be on or earned SSDI for a year before you can get Medicare which totally sux because people who get on Social Security when they retire automatically qualify for Medicare. They don't have to be retired for a year. Plus disableds NEED health care. I didn't have insurance for a while because of that & because I had insurance through my job & was continuing it under COBRA after I quit which cut off eventually & cost half my SSDI check. I couldn't get private insurance due to preexisting conditions. I had nothing for a few months till I had earned SSDI for a year & qualified for Medicare. I then automatically qualified for the Medicare Extra Help program that Medicaid pays. I don't know how the credits program works. I was just told I had earned enough to apply for SSDI. How much can you earn & still keep your SSDI :?: I'm curious for when I start job searching.

What state do you live in :?: Would it be possible to reduce your weekly hours, like start being scheduled for 10 instead of 20.

Ssi works kinda like this
$400 earned Income minus $85 is $315
Divide that by 2 to get 157.75. So you’ll get $157.75 less that month from ssi. If that number goes over what you get from ssi you get nothing. I don’t get any ssi but still get medical insurance from ssi so I can’t having savings over 2,000 and have to send pay stubs in every month. Ssdi doesn’t care about savings gifts etc
I also have insurance from ssdi
Ssi pays for doctors and stuff whole ssdi does medicine, before hand ssi paid all my medicine, ssdi only pays most of it

$1180 unless it goes up this year is most you can earn
Anything over $900ish counts as a work month if you do that 4 times in 10 years you’ll get evaluated the. If you make over $1180 you get kicked off.
Cause apparently they think one can live off $1180 without any assistance. Our rent is $1400ish. They only consider federal non wage when calculating that maximum so it sucks to be in state that has a much much higher min wage.
I think in federal wage states making that much would be working full time and if you can work full time you can’t be on ssdi which is their logic but in my state you can make that working 20 hours part time. It won’t be enough to live off in my state.

I currently work 16 hours a week.
Couple years from now that’ll be too much. They won’t be happy if I can only work 5-10 hours a week that’s like one day a week. Most places won’t hite anyone for one day a week
