introversion is not morally wrong, a choice, or inherently bad. but almost all jobs are aimed at extroverts. exception: science, engineering, technology, trades. jobs that i qualify for, usually have "outgoing" in the job description.

neurotypical: requires no explanation.

cisgender: homophobia

white male: racism, sexism

civil engineer: while i do not know enough about civil engineering to be good at it, or like it, or know what the challenges are, whatever it is, has to be better than flipping burgers.

I have no desire to be a civil engineer. I also don't flip burgers and I have seen fat Chinese people.

Mark, do not let your failures define who you are. If you allow such factors like low self-esteem control you, such factors will make you feel worse and you must not let this happen.

My low self-esteem has certainly plagued me for years. I just hope it won't be permanent.

Most Bible Belters are very insecure. They get nervous if they haven't prayed for forgiveness just so they can repeat their self-serving all over again.

Mark, you can change how you think. Your current brain rut is not one that is beneficial to your mental health or happiness in life. Changing how you think can be done with tricks and exercises (I am sure your counselor knows some) or even just mental exercises.

When my mind obsesses on something, I have to stay aware, tell my mind "STOP" and replace it with a different thought. I usually have a mental pack of notecards with other things to think about. Such as "go look at your orchids," "go pet the cat," go for a walk" I don't know what yours would be, but this is a technique that works if you practice it.

Unlike Fnord, blazingstar doesn't downplay my struggles and doesn't talk bad about me behind my back.

Mark, I choose to remember that all of us on this forum, almost by definition, have social and communication impairments. I choose to separate people's communication styles with the information and/or wisdom (and/or BS :D ) each may impart. It saddens me to see angry/snarky/blaming/demeaning communications on this board, but I am even more saddened when someone else feels obligated to respond in kind.

The reason I use the word "choose" is because, at least for me, it is a choice. I can be and have been as angry and snarky as can be imagined. It turned out that was not a good way for me to be and it made my insides hurt. So I decided to stop the hurtful behavior. As a fallible human being, I am not always successful. :D

You can make these choices, too. ((Mark))

I want My 20s back, too. But it will never happen.

What would you change should you have the opportunity to relive your 20s?
