The japanese have a term called kaizen where you slowly apply more pressure. In this situation it would mean asking for directions/asking for the time. And after a while randomly saying hi and striking up conversations

Bars really aren't the type of place where you would thrive, Marknis. Don't judge your life based upon your experiences in bars.

If I based my life on bar experiences, I wouldn't be in very good shape at all.

I won't be going back to that place anymore. My therapist even told me to avoid places like it.

Oh my goodness I'm sorry, but I sorted put my drink when j read that.

Markins! C'mon.

You're going out of your way to be pathetic and awkward.

I'm imagining you standing awkwardly in the corner glaring at everyone and the bartender has to move you on.

Get a grip mate!

Go out and do something you actually enjoy.

I wasn't standing in a corner nor was I glaring when it happened.

You werent there and thats a very rude judgement

It's like you just did it so you could moan about it and get sympathy on here.

Who goes to a bar and doesn't order a drink, even a coke at least?

Do things you enjoy and tell us about them.

Stop create threads upon threads moaning about things and actually do something positive

The point of going to a bar is getting shit-faced drunk so you have absolutely no filter and can finally let your true self shine.

Stop making assumptions about me. That wasn't my intention at all. Before I went in, a friend was encouraging me to go and she even suggested I try talking to the aforementioned girls at the bar. I actually sat at the bar, I was trying to get past my anxiety, and I was thinking of ordering something but I couldn't because my mind was going through analysis paralysis.

I've seen you post threads "moaning" about things yourself so you have no business telling me what to do. I actually posted on the last one you did because I empathize with you on mid-winter instead of making assumptions about you.

Certain posters do seem to be stuck in a mental rut, and I view that as a part of their psychological makeup. OCD tendencies, maybe. Probably the best thing the rest of us could do is limit our responding, once we are sure that is what is happening. But it does frustrate commenters to see a solution that appears obvious, and is not being taken into account.

If I think the person's situation might be life or death, I am more likely to get drawn in. There is at least one person at WP that I think that about. Other posters, if they really like the rut they are in, I accept it.

This is an answer to hurtloam and not to Marknis. Though I do somewhat see Marknis as stuck, and other people say the same thing. Even Marknis says that about himself! I got nuthin', as far as an answer goes.

I sense that an anime convention would be your best bet, Marknis. Especially as a start out of your rut.

Sorry, but you're the boy who cried wolf.

Its the way you phrased your first post in such a defeatist way. Why didn't you explain yourself like this in your first post? Why didn't you call the post "I tried Something New"

If you use positive language it can help you see things in a more positive light.

Well done for trying something new. I do mean that.

There's moaning once in a while, then there's always making defeatist post every week. Not the same thing.

Oops. I've just realised this thread is in The Haven. If I had I wouldn't have been so callous.

Bea, is it just me, or have you also noticed that the more we limit our responding, the less there is to respond to? It's almost as if there is some kind of cyclical symbiosis going on, where one person's response is another person's stimulus, and vice-versa.

In line with the concept that one sign of insanity might be doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result each time, it seems best to NOT give the same advice over and over again only to be rebuffed each time. Otherwise, people like you and I might be considered the crazy ones!

:D

I was actually thinking of letting Fnord respond to my posts again but he just keeps showing how he holds people like me in contempt and wants me to not have a girlfriend.
