I made huge tic tac toe boards on paper with my childhood best friend on the bus and played them with her. Sometimes we drew things other than X's and O's for the X's and O's.

I used to skateboard down a long hill with no protective shields on and sometimes cars driving up and down the hill.
It was fun as much as it was risky.

When I wasn't at school I spent most of my childhood scrambling about on rocky beaches and cliffs and poking around in rock pools. It was all fun.

Played hours upon hours and hours with Lego. I would play with my friend who also enjoyed Lego as much as I do/did.

Climbing around on big machinery in my grandfather's abandoned workshop annexe behind his house and my house. I was four years old and allowed to go in there alone or with my brother, who pretty much ignored me and played with my cousin. There were broken machines, old appliances, vehicles, giant cranes, discarded tools, etc. (the vice grip was my favourite tool, used to squish things), and even the workshop building itself was falling apart. I liked to climb up on the roof of the workshop by myself and look out over the hills. The whole place smelled warm, like tar and grease ... and the sunlight always shone through broken glass with specs of dust. It was in a woodlot / open field behind our house and I can barely picture it, but I remember the sensory stimulation (smells, sounds, textures, etc).

My cat that I was obsessed with

Biked to then Spent time by the pond (making sure to be hidden) writing in my diary

Hated to be seen. Felt exposed. Tried to hide in bushes n stuff. My one proper friend Nikki n I we were playing tag with the neighbor hood big kids
On bikes
I was so excited as i had never been included by others before like that
Nikki n i biked then we found a bush
She told me to come in
It was v high

Hedge i guess? It completely hid us n there was clear space within
It became our secret hideaway spot
Nikki brought her barbies
I brought my stuffed toy rabbit
We wd just be there
She usually dictated the pretending play
But i wd add in ideas

What a great little memory in an otherwise depressing time of being bullied at school n meltdowns at home! Hope nikki is well. She was a great kid!!

My best friend and I would climb the rafters of an unfinished barn. I thought I was sooo cool and brave. The beams were skinny at times, and there were blackberry bushes below if we fell. We never did fall from what I remember.

Haha ‘from what I remember’ sounds like if u did fall, the resulting injury wiped out the memory of it

I would walk along the railroad tracks behind my parents' house. To the west were two parks with a trestle over a river between them. To the east was the grain elevator, a party store, and a railroad yard. A spur cut north trough forests and farmland.

I would find all sorts of things that had fallen off the trains -- tools, toys, clothes, shoes -- and they were all still in their original containers. I once found a construction laser (used to provide a straight line for construction workers) still in its protective case, and still operational. I played with it for a few days and then turned it in for the reward.

Finding my way back home wasn't a problem; I would just turn around and follow the tracks back the way I had come.

Nowadays, there are too many weirdos camped out beside the tracks, even though it's illegal to be there.

I have another memory:

I built a play fort out of bed sheets which hung from the ceiling in our cellar. The play fort was as large as a normal bedroom and I put old furniture, an old telephone, and most of my toys in there. That's where I lived when I was married to Elton John. No one was allowed in. I kept the play fort for about eight years and spent most of my time there alone. I still remember the smell of the Lysol disinfectant that my mother made me spray on some of the older steel items.

I used to love to go in the backyard after a major snow, and create a system of paths -- or roads, if you will. Right down the middle was a major expressway with a median separating two lanes on both sides. The rest of the paths meandered through the yard. I was a peculiar kid!
