I feel very disillusioned about my country

And my issue is no longer about him, it's about the country as a whole.

Sure we have the freedom to complain about things, but nothing ever gets done to really fix them anymore and that really bothers me.

One of the things that really bothers me is our justice system. No matter how minor a crime you commit once you get sentence to prison you are ruined for life after you get released. You either end up back in prison or homeless because nobody will hire a person who has been to prison and the government will deny you assistance. There is no "paying your debt to society" in our country, and it's also very unfair that if you are rich or have the right connections you can stay out of prison even if you really deserve to be there.

Also there's the fact that even after death row inmates are proven innocent by DNA testing many of them still nevee get released because it can't be admitted as new evidence.

One of the many issues that has me disillusioned.

Trump is just a name in this context.

I'd like to explore New Zealand some day.

Yeah....I agree with what you say. I've thought about similar things.

But this sort of thing happens in ALL countries. NO country is a panacea.

If one goes to one of the "worst" countries in the world, one notices that people do the best they can with what they got. They don't get hot under the collar about things. They think sensibly about surviving.

I guess it's sometimes good to get angry so you'll feel like doing something about injustice. But people aren't going to want to work with you if all you are is angry.

If people jump down people's throats all the time, nothing will get done. There has to be anger----but there also has to be perspective, too.

I would say we're a good country fundamentally.....but that there are aspects of the US which suck. Of course there is.

We are, at least, somewhat fortunate in that we have the ability to effect change. And we don't have to have a revolution to do so. We can write our Congressman. We can express ourselves over the Internet. We can meet like-minded people and seek to take action.

Anger can be constructive....and can be destructive. Thurgood Marshall channeled his anger into being a driving force behind the 1954 Desegregation decision. Martin Luther King had anger----but he knew how to use it smartly. Malcolm X, more blatantly angry, didn't succeed as well.

It would be absolutely disastrous if we had a revolution.

At least I can distract myself with The Golden Girls. No matter how bad things get in the world they always cheer me up.

That’s exactly what people during the Depression did: distract themselves through radio shows and movies.

I prefer the “retro” channels myself.

I mean even the "bad" entertainment was better that mediocre stuff we get from Hollywood now.

But then again I seem to hate movies and shows that everybody else loves and I like stuff nobody watches anymore so who am I to talk?
