Wales to Falmouth... in a straight line not far at all, by road... a long way. Falmouth is pretty near the end of the line, next stop New York.

Going on holiday alone is not for everyone. I certainly wouldn't want to go away on holiday alone. It would feel lonely, being so I'm not very good at making friends with other holiday-makers, and I wouldn't have the confidence to go alone either. I'd much rather go with someone.

Yes. It was well out of my comfort zone. I don't go abroad into England that often! I have even once been known to have three crazy days in Scotland but that's another story!

I think there are websites that you can use to hook up with people for travelling,
as well as sofa surfing. Often, with reviews and some level of ID screening.

How about going with a tour? I've never been to a holiday without my family either and i'm almost 30.

I did contemplate a tour, but I'd be stuck with a load of people i dont know, though they might be old ladies, so that might be ok.

I'm too scared to travel on my own. I look very celtic so I'd be an obvious "tourist" target wherever I go. Unless I go to Scotland or Ireland.

Hurtloam, you should try to travel on your own, even though you're scared to do so, you should try. You may find you really enjoy it.

My first big solo trip was to France. I had ever been overseas and don't speak French and I was terrified. But the trip was easier than expected and knowing French was not needed at all - although it was handy to know a few simple words. As is so often the case, the anticipation of the event was worse than the actual event itself. The worst thing that happened to me was I caught a cold while I was there and spent one day in my hotel room watching TV.

Since then I've been all over the US and to Europe a few times and once to Mexico (talk about getting stared at - oh well, I wasn't the only gringo there).

Now I regularly travel on my own because I get to do what I want on my schedule. It's also a great way to learn self-reliance and how to be more relaxed in unfamiliar surroundings.

You should pick something outside of your comfort zone but not TOO far outside of that zone. Just enough to give you a challenge. And if you're in a tourist spot, you will hardly be the only Celtic-looking tourist.

I know people in this thread are trying to help, but please stop suggesting that she goes on holiday on her own. She doesn't want to, and I know that going on holiday alone is not for everyone. I certainly wouldn't want to do it.

I'd love to go on my own, but I am scared. Maybe I should try the UK on my own first. Maybe I could research online for reviews of places for solo female travellers.

I've actually found a friend in the UK to go and visit, so I will get a break, but not abroad.

I especially wouldn't take advice from Luhluhluh. She's extremely judgmental and condescending towards aspies, especially towards me since she doesn't want me to have a girlfriend.

That's a great idea, that's how I started. I went on a few trips on my own in my own country before making the jump over "the pond."

I do understand the unease although it's actually a lot easier than it seems. Getting over the fear is the biggest hurdle.

I would find it easy to do I don't mind my own company. I just don't want to get mugged, kidnapped or murdered.

Yeah, I understand. I think the thing that helped me was remembering that the media tends to focus on these negative events because sensationalism sells. You never hear about the person who went on holiday, had a great time, and came back home safely.

But if it's something that you truly don't feel comfortable doing, that's okay too. There are several tour groups that cater to solo women travelers, maybe that's something to consider as well. Either way good luck, hope you work something out.

Have you ever seen those websites where people can find traveling partners? Perhaps that's an option to consider.

How do I know the travelling partner isn't going to mug or kill me?
