To everyone who has posted - I am deeply moved and comforted by reading each message, thank you for the thoughtfulness and support. It has really helped me today, this first day after.
It's now early afternoon here in New Zealand. I've spent the morning preparing him for burial, preparing the site, burying him, then building a "beehive" made of rocks on top.
Performing these tasks really, really helped me. It was the last thing that I could do for him, and I buried a letter of loving thanks for all the joy and love he brought me.
It was a very healing for me. So is your loving support. Thank you so much.
