This is why extreme lockdowns are an over-reaction. Earlier travel bans on China would have solved 99% of the current problems and the Chinese government is complicit in this and should be punished.

They did not want to be the only country affected and fall behind in the world.

How many people have died because they deliberately exported it out of the country?
They got away with murder, literally.

The evidence is stacking up that despite China created a wall of steel around Wuhan they happily let infected people leave their borders internationally because they didn't care their spread the virus outside of China.

If only trump and other leaders heeded the warnings and stopped all travel from China in late January/early Feb.

The London riots may help, because it is an act of protest and a way to get through to the government how angry the majority of people are at how badly the UK government is handling this.

I am s**t scared of losing my job this time. I cannot cope with being on the dole. I had 5 years of that hell before and ended up in a job that I hated because I was so desperate to get off the dole and earn my own money. Now that I'm in a job that I love and I'm settled and planning on building my career here, I do NOT want to have all that taken away from me. If I was to lose my job I'll never get another one, not during this recession where there's going to be like 100 people applying for each job. My life is practically over. It's making me freak out SO BADLY that all I can think about is angry thoughts like riots and war.

f*****g China. The black plague came from there and so did SARS.

And please don't advise me to pray or anything because I am strongly an atheist.

I don't care about the coronavirus but my folks, and my BF's folks in Gauteng, are in high risk category due to old age. Personally I think no government has the right to enforce lockdowns. They only produce resistance. The world didn't have them for any other viruses. It's not as if the fatality rate is very high.

If it weren't for my folks I probably wouldn't take any precautions at all. I find all the sanitation and mask wearing tedious and never wear them outdoors.

I don't see what's so difficult about coming up with an effective vaccine. They've got the money, supercomputers and other resources yet not producing acceptable results?

I feel for you Joe. The UK is handling it badly.

If Boris Johnson and his shower of third rate politicians had approached the matter responsibly, and there'd been less of the 'My rights trump anyone else's well being' mentality from the morally challenged, things could've been so much better.

As it is I'm becoming more and more anxious and afraid.

There is a 'good" chance the next plague will come from there also.
But next time, we need to shut down borders immediately!

Over here, they are talking about March, for a vaccine.

Agree 100%, we need to stop kow-towing to China but of course all they have to do is threaten trade sanctions and everyone goes quiet.

"pepe: 'Bout time... the "never" story seems to be some kind of negative conspiracy theory in itself. I think many folk are tired of waiting so they say "looks like never".

Re trade sanctions most of the world could get by without Chinese products.

We have to be careful about starting wars with anyone—especially countries with a nuclear arsenal.

We should try the “good cop/bad cop” approach with China. We should encourage them to conduct “wet markets” differently, so animals don’t spread these diseases that originate in those “wet markets.”

Revenge shouldn’t be the only device used to prevent the spread of disease in the future.

Frankly revenge benefits no one and often hurts the one seeking vengeance more than the one they want to retaliate against.
