Lake Superior actually gets fairly warm in some ports in July and August----close to 70 degrees.

Sometimes, it stays in the 40s during summer days around Grand Marais. Interesting microclimate.

But most of Chicago is safe for tourists----just like most of New York City is safe for tourists. One, usually, just has to use common sense.

I'm sure the downtown touristy area of Chicago is relatively safe, and maybe some wealthier neighborhoods, but the truth is most of Chicago appears to be a cesspool. Wouldn't be surprised if Minneapolis is the same, especially with people fleeing the city. You don't know where in Minneapolis he lives or what the city as a whole is like now.

As far as New York City is concerned, if someone says they want to be a "tourist" in the Bronx, then I hope to hell they mean Riverdale and not Morrisania. Park Slope may be trendy, but would anyone desire to live in Bed-Stuy? If someone lived in a dumpier neighborhood of NYC, and couldn't afford to move to a nicer part of the city, then I wouldn't blame them for purchasing a bus ticket to somewhere else.

OP: Good luck with your move.

Bed-Stuy is actually "gentrifying" as we speak.

It's become quite the desirable part of Brooklyn.

East New York still sucks, though. So does South Jamaica in Queens---but "regular" Jamaica isn't all that bad.

As for the Bronx.....I would say much of it isn't all that great, and there are pockets where it's downright cuckoo. But I do believe, say, the area around the Bronx Zoo and the Botanical Gardens has potential. And if they could make the areas around Van Courtlandt and Pelham Bay Park more desirable, the Bronx could really become a more viable borough.

I hope you get a nice place quickly in Duluth.

I already have a house in Duluth with my cousin who is my business partner (ok I work for him, but it helps me feel powerful to call my boss my business partner)

It's actually an ok house, although because my cousin always has the terrible habit of leaving the doors and even windows without filters open bugs and animals always get inside, including some unpleasant ones like mice and gophers. I dread sleeping in my cousin's house, but it is what it is

At least we live a few minutes away from Lake Superior and the swim there is nice (if you dont mind the freezing ice cold temperatures that is)

Maybe you could contribute to the house by buying screens and screen doors?

Cats do a good job on rodents, if you can get used to owning a cat. When I lived in the country the house was full of mice, which concerned me because they spread germs. So we got two cats, and then, instead of small mice, we had two big mice!

A he-man type like you will do great with the occasional dip in Lake Superior. It's like a cold shower, only more energetic!

Southwest Minneapolis looks like a nice area, actually......Lake Harriet is nice.

Just because you have some people protesting in certain areas----doesn't mean Minneapolis is a cesspool.

This "black and white" thinking about cities is getting us nowhere.

When I lived with my roommates, which was in SW Minneapolis, lake Harriett was within walking distance. I would go there all the time just to take in the scene. Even in the winter when the Lake was frozen, if it was not too cold.
1. The band shell
2. The metropolis

As a child, I used to attend performances at the Children's Theater for class fieldtrips which were always my favorite. I also loved the Science Museum of Minnesota.

I hear Duluth has some neat things within that town and though I have never been sight seeing there, I have been through it lots of times. Actually, one of my roommates who I loved with in Minneapolis was from Superior.
