But, life events and all that make you watch the hands of strangers 24/7, put your back against the walls, look for cover/concealment, and map out exits, just in case; the imprint it gave you seems to be a lifelong thing. So yeah, I avoid crowds, and even individuals for that matter.

Supposedly, autism and PTSD aren't a good combo.

Do you feel like that ?

I think thats a part of social anxiety

Have always felt this way. I think, in part, it's from sensing you're different and thus more vulnerable. A lifetime of people pointing out and laughing at these differences doesn't help. Of course, if you don't like the feeling of eye contact, then being where it's more likely will also make you anxious.

Hi there Highly_Autistic. I've been reading your posts on Wrong Planet. We live in the same country. I have the same problems. I mean aspergers, social anxiety, depression. If you want to talk, feel free to send a PM.

It may be "Scopophobia" -- the fear of being watched.
Wikipedia wrote:
Scopophobia, scoptophobia, or ophthalmophobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by a morbid fear of being seen in public or stared at by others. Similar phobias include erythrophobia, the fear of blushing, and an epileptic's fear of being looked at, which may itself precipitate such an attack.

I have Scopophobia, which is why I don't go out much unless I have to. I wish more people understood about Scopophobia, because probably a lot of neurotypicals have this too (besides, who really likes being stared at when you're not doing anything to draw attention to yourself?)

I don't get stared at as much as I used to but sometimes I feel like every female between the ages of 20-40 stare at me as they pass, even though I don't look at them. I have good peripheral vision, if I'm looking ahead I can still see everything going on around me.

Out of the all the people I've known, interacted with and passed by in my life, only four have done or attempted to do things to me that I'd consider worthy of the hypervigilance I feel. Typical bullying, fisticuffs, mean/hateful words, exclusion and similar things aren't a bother to me.

So yeah, >99% is correct in my context. Knowing this doesn't make me feel any different though.

Whenever I take the trash out or go and get something from the car I always feel like my neighbours are all looking out their windows at me, watching and observing my every move. There are a few nosy, busybodies in our apartment building who do actually rush to their window at any little noise. Obviously I know I have nothing to hide but I still dislike the feeling of being watched.

Anyone else feel the same?
