Perhaps not enough people are directly facing a situation they feel is worse than death, so they see no point in killing them-self. Makes sense. Also, some people may want to stick around and fight against what they are facing or would prefer to flee to another state/country as that is less deadly than suicide usually.

Bullying is another factor.

A lot of people would be upset if I did that. A family member made an attempt and went to the hospital; everyone was worried sick. My mother was bawling out crying. I had an empty feeling in my gut like it was in knots; thankfully she recovered and was alright. No matter how bad things get, suicide is not an option.

I hate it when I'm told 'you can't kill yourself, so many people depend on you, so many people would miss you.' That feels like I'm worthless apart from my relation to someone else. All I am is the role of mother, daughter, wife etc. Not ME! A person with a life of my own.

I decided to try and think of the things a suicidal person has to look forward to in their own lives, even little things like watching a football tournament in 2 months time.

People adapt, they always have. So no matter how bleak or difficult things become there is a desire to live, every living thing has that same desire no matter how futile the outcome may seem. That's why suicide is hard, it's hard to give up.

Supposably they already seem to be committing self termination . In great numbers already . Claims of 22 deaths a day by Veterans .Seems common in the USA …. But in many other groups am sure the figures are quite high.
Even amongst Aspies .

America is certainly not living up to its promises, but that is not worth killing one's self (or others).

some folks just can't cope with life. some folk just don't know how to live in their circumstance, much less knowing how to change their circumstance.

Overall, by most measures of well being, life has gotten steadily better and better for the majority of people on earth over the past 70 years. Back in the early 50s, the infant mortality rate was still around 10% in Europe. Today it's less than that in the 3rd world. In the 70s and 80s there were mass famines. Today there are far, far fewer people in dire poverty.

The news and social media like to highlight stories that get people worked up about how terrible things are. If you listen to them, you'll just hear a drumbeat of negativity. And it's true that there are negative things--but there are also tons and tons of positive things that never get reported on, but are still true.

Yes, I think this is correct. I have my moments, including yesterday, where I feel I can't cope anymore, but in the last few years I've become much better at appreciating what I have and feeling a sense of gratitude. There's a high chance everything could come crashing down in a couple of years and I'm facing a lot of uncertainty beyond that, but you've got to make the most of what you've got whilst you've still got it.

It’s always been that way, and in many ways worse. I’m very glad to have been born today in spite of everything, even life a few decades ago sounds awful (especially for AS folk). I’m seriously worried about the climate situation though.

I don't think the past was always better or worse, it depends on perspective and it's sometimes subjective. I think some areas of life were easier in the past even if you had AS, I heard that in the "old days" the only effort needed to get a good job was to go in to the place and you will most likely have got the job. And today, living itself is 2-3x more expensive. The way we do things today is also virtual-only and in a single central channel.

They're happy to be alive and they see life as a gift. I'm one of those people.

Maybe people are "committing suicide left and right" but it is not on the news
