Okay... my plan is this.

1. I go get the letter tomorrow morning. If it's not there, I ask to speak to Dr. D. and also tell him that my prescription hasn't been called in yet, which I have to do anyway.

2. I go to Social Services, give them the letter, ask for forms to apply for AISH (Alberta disability benefits). Then I come back here and talk to Corine, ask her if any room here at the Y became vacant, so that I can move into it and away from my mother!

3. I get AISH (on the meantime I'm living on SS), I save up and buy some land, they finally find an apartment for me (should take 4 weeks), I go and live in it, I invite you all over.

4. We meet in a public place. We each spend time feeling out EACH INDIVIDUAL PERSON in the group. We show each other our picture ID cards and each write down the full names of the others. We hang around all day and all night outside, feeling each other out more. Finally, if you all seem legit, I take you home with me. :D

5. We work, save money to buy some trailers, buy the trailers, make money to buy some land, buy the land.

Anyway, I handed in the letter and got info on how to apply for AISH, and so things are cool so far! But I NEEEEEED at LEEEEEAST THREEEEEEE more people!

I'm thinking that we stay in Edmonton for a while, maybe get our trailers, then move to Vancouver. :D Vancouver's land isn't any more expensive and the living cost is lower and salaries are higher, I can still get disability benefits there and it's a more beautiful place with more of a diverse population. :D

Winter in Edmonton? Brave soul! But if we get to Vancouver, then I'm in. Or maybe off-island? Trailers in Vancouver? Sis used to live at the corner of Burrard and ... um ... near the water - lol everything in Vancouver is near the water. In the meantime, I'll winter in Quebec, which is warmer than Edmonton! lol everywhere is warmer than Edmonton.

Oh yeah... I might be in either my own apartment or a group home (until I can afford to get my own apartment) when they find me a place... I'll have no rent to pay if it's a group home so I'll be able to do other stuff I want to do, and I guess I could convince the other people there to let username88 and MADDuck sleep in the living room, the basement or someone's room or a spare room... I hope so! At least MADDuck will have a van if worse comes to worst! :D

That would be so fun, but I dunno if anyone would go for it! Username? MADDuck? We wouldn't NEED an apartment if we could just get a houseboat! One that could hold our vehicles, of course! We could do that before we got land, then put the boat on wheels and live on it on the land, dragging it along behind the vehicles as we move from place to place until we build a bunker in the land to store it. :) I think this idea is actually legit. :)

Damn; I wish you could join us, Claradoon!

I'll also ask the social worker for forms to apply for AISH (ALberta disability benefits... about $1000 Canadian a month). My shrink said that an extreme social anxiety disorder like I have means I'm eligible! I'm so happy!

disability for extreme social anxiety disorder??! !!

I have extreme social anxiety disorder, among many other things. I take an SSRI for that. Although it doesn't take all the anxiety away (I still have a lot), it helps me enough that I can go to school, and learn to become a productive member of society.

I'm going to be straight up with you here...

I don't like you leeching off the system like this. There are people who are a lot sicker than you who desparately need the disability benefits.

1000$ a month and a free apartment for an extreme case of social anxiety disorder is just BS. You're taking the easy road in life.

You're shrink is an idiot! Leeching off the system is the last thing my shrink would want me to do. Do you take any medication for your social anxiety?

That money is for people who are severely mentally impaired or you so physically crippled that they can't move anywhere without an assistant or a nurse.

1. You need anti-anxiety meds and cognitive-behavioural therapy
2. You need to go to school (adult highschool, college, or university)
3. You need to get a job

Edit: I appologize if I sound harsh, cruel, and insensitive, but I tell it like it is. I know I was raised to be a productive member of society, and I'm working towards that goal.

I agree, medication doesnt always make you function the way you want to. I have the same condition, I cant even talk on the phone! So your saying I just have to "do it anyway"? Heh, if it was possible I guess I would, or if I want the person on the other line to think Im mentally defficient.

It means so much that CockneyRebel finds it good news! :D You make me smile, CockneyRebel! Even though we never talked in PMs, maybe once, I still think your member title that says you're bus-loving and big-hearted Sid is totally accurate!

Jkrane: THIS IS NOT FOREVER! Just so that we can get this going! And this, believe me, will HELP people! School isn't for everyone, a pre-existing workplace isn't for everyone. And if we don't take what we need, we will be screwed over every chance we get! Be at peace. :)

Claradoon-- we only talked a few times in posts but it means so much tha you defended me! Even if you were harsh it still means so much to me! :D

You might want to have all your commune posts in one place so new people can read them and learn about the commune and what you have already planned.
I have been looking for your original post but there are 10,000 posts on WP and I have no idea where it is.
Maybe you can PM me with ti becasuse I 'll never find it otherwise

I have always thought the idea of an Aspie commune to be a very good one, and it would be great if it could happen, but a lot of practical stuff would need to be worked out first. The thing is whatever apt social services finds for you is not going to be big enough for 8 people, and may not even be big enough for 3 people. Most Aspies need their private space and their alone time so you want to make sure it is big enough for people. If you get enough people who can contribute money, though, you could even rent a house. My brother rents a house with 6 other people; it has like 6 bedrooms; that would be enough space for everyone. But people would have t o commit and you'd have to make sure living styles were compatible.

Good luck though, I hope it all works out. I live in Maine and don't think I'll be moving to Canada anytime soon, but you never know. I am close enough to it as it is, lol. Anyone not from New England always thinks i live in canada...

Kate

Yet another Kate on WP! You, me and Graelwyn are all named Kate!

NEway... the first commune thread (and the board I started after) I tried to make serious, but people kept making the thread difficult to navigate and really really long by posting ideas and suggestions as well as definite things... but the simplest ideas are the best, so right now we're just planning to get there and be together, we'll figure out the rest later or in that other thread.

I need to get all those people who said in the other thread that they'd come, and post their stuff in here... and PM them telling them to come in here and post their responses to the above questions.

Maybe we should all add to that form what our lifestyle is... do they play music loud? How much space do they need?
