At one point, I wore identical looking pairs of clothes that consisted of a bright green t-shirt, a black unbuttoned shirt over top, and black, baggy pants with chains on them. I liked this outfit because green and black were my favorite colors, and the bagginess helped me feel decent-looking.

But NTs didn't see it that way. People would stare at me wherever I went. I would get angry, threatening looks by mostly old people, but some younger people too. I couldn't go to the grocery store without embarrassing my Mom. My brother wouldn't want me seen when his friends come over, and my Dad would constantly tell me to remove the chains, even though they were attached to my clothing. To my personal culture, clothing is an important way for one to express themselves and who they are, but NTs can't understand/accept that.

Eventually, I gave up. I couldn't get NTs to like me for who I was, so I "changed". I bought several pairs of completely normal, generic-looking clothes. I altered my style of walking, and pretended to have different interests when socializing. However, these changes were not done in order to make friends, but merely to enable me to better interact in an NT-dominated world. In fact, this change was symbolic of my total abandonment at ever socializing or relating to NTs on a level worthy of friendship. My parents did not understand this and were very pleased. I tried to explain to them that I was still going to wear my green and black outfit at home, as well as when I went to aspie meetings, but they, especially my Dad, didn't get that. After over 4 months, my Dad, who pays very little attention to me, finally noticed that I was still wearing my aspie outfit at home, and started getting on my case about it again when I bought a fresh supply of chain pants, even though he had originally claimed his reason for his treatment of the issue was that he was worried for me. This no longer applied now that I wasn't wearing this stuff in public, and proves it was just his own problem with me. These chains were removable, but I lied to him that whey weren't because I knew he would steal them otherwise.

Though not on a physical level, I consider NTs to be a different species on a mental level from me. I can talk to an NT and enjoy myself, but only as much as I can talk to my lizard - I can't really get them to understand me and relate to me. If anything, my interactions with my lizard are better quality because I don't have to concern myself with pointless social barriers.

That isn't, however, to say NTs are inferior to me, or that they are bad people. I have had NTs conclude I was a bad person when they witnessed behavior they couldn't understand, and I refuse to do the same to them. However different I may be from them, I have to accept that we are both human, and that I am at risk of human flaw as much as they are. People tend to easily be hypocritical about people that do wrong to them, as in "those bastards are doing x, so I'll do x*2 back to them! That will teach them!". I need to avoid those thoughts when I can, because even though I want to hate NTs on an emotional level, I know logically that I can't be unhappy about them refusing to accept my differences if I cannot do the same for them. It's worth noting that for every NT who gave me a dirty look or made fun on me, there were 10 more that left me alone.

I generally don't think about clothes at all but that outfit sounds really cool. It makes me wonder why NTs were bothered since I've seen some of their "nonconformists" dress like that without getting any grief about it.
I agree with your last paragraph, if someone's being bad to us we shouldn't sink to their level.
I also get what you're saying about it being like trying to communicate with a lizard.

those people aren't really non-conformists though. I mean you cant be a non-conformist then dress like all the other non-conformists. Then you are just conforming to the idea of what a non-conformist is. A true non-conformist does things out of independent choices, thus they should all be unique not the same.

Anyways, I also dont care much about clothes. Something my mom still doesn't fully get. Allow me to give the following example
Mom: Ok which pair of pants do you like?
Me: I dont care
Mom: What about this one?
Me: I dont care!
Mom: How about this one?
Me: sure, just get that one
Mom: So you like this one better
Me: no I dont care which one, just pick one

This normally goes on for about ten minutes. Eventually like most aspies I snap and just start screaming at her. She still doesn't get it an tells me to stop or they will throw us out. I tell her, good then I can finally get out of there.

Why is it so hard to understand indifferance? Its clothing, long as it isn't profusely ugly I dont really care.

Though Kamex, you actually lied? I was under the impression that most aspies despise the act

Is that original?

If so, would you mind if I used it as my signature?

Same here. All they care about is money, popularity and being "with it", and screw the people they walk over in order to get those things.

you know originally I never cared if I had kids. Now I want to just so there are more aspies in the world.

Oh incase you weren't aware aspergers is often passed to offspring, particularly if the father had it, and especially if both do.

Aspie women, gods gift to men

Exactly. It REALLY pisses me off when those people are sitting around and are treated so cool because they're 'on their own paths' and 'different' when they treat me like s*** for actually, you know, saying the things that are on my mind and doing what I want. If I wear pants under my dresses and make up my own dialect wouldn't that make me the nonconformist?

As I learn more about myself and others with aspergers, and the continuing trials living around NTs forces me to deal with. I find my opinion of them shifting more and more into a darker place. The lack of understanding, miscommunications, lying, perceived amorality, ect. I deal with it all the time, and the more I am around them the more I find myself hurt and the more my trust erodes. Now I am viewing them more as amoral lying filth then fellow human beings.

I know exactly what you are talking about and yes I feel the same way. I am more at peace with it now as i tell myself that they just have a different social system from me and my aspie friends.

their social systems are based on fear and anxiety:

"What will they think of me?"
"I'd better toe the line, this person is dominant to me"
"What is the right thing to say here?"
"Oh my god im nervous I'd better start small talking and banter to ease the tension"

They look so cool and confident but they are actually pretty scared, of each other, and themselves.

Whereas the aspie code is "To thineownself be true." Plain and simple

Yes we are different but though i am often angry and exasperated at NTs I try and remember they are vulnerable and they look for pack protection, like a hunted animal.

I hope this helps...

I don't believe all NTs are the enemy because I've found some other aspies to do just the same things NTs are often accused of doing eg. be spiteful, sexist, intolerant. I think it's necessary to take each individual on their own merits or lack of.

That said, I think our society in general is not aspie friendly.
