I self-harmed seriously from about age 12-22. I self-harmed all my life, though, even when I was a toddler. I would head bang, hit, and bite myself. I remember one incident clearly, in first grade, where I was the teacher's favorite because I was so "gifted." But one day I had a meltdown in class... next thing I knew I was on the floor banging my head against the wall and I will never forget the look of horror on the teacher's face.

I started self-harming with knives and razors when I was 12. I now understand this was just another form of self-injurious stimming. The purpose of stimming is to calm down an overloaded brain, either emotional or sensory overload, using the shortcut of injury to produce endorphins. I still have a problem with scratching (using just my fingernails) but thankfully I no longer do anything really serious, and I haven't used razors or anything like that in 10+ years.

I don't know what advice to give you other than to try to see this as stimming, and understanding that you need to stim, BUT, cutting is a very bad idea because the risks of accidentally hurting yourself too much (I once needed more than 50 stitches from a time I self-harmed, and I didn't intend to hurt myself so badly), or of being seen as a "suicide attempt" are just too great. It might seem impossible but try to find some other way to stim, and try to recognize what exactly is putting you in overload and try to protect yourself from it before you reach the overload point.

I have talked to the girl in my English class and she said she would talk to him or get him to text me. I think she sees him tomorrow so hopefully something should happen this week.

I went to the hospital yesterday and they decided that I should take Inter-personal therapy. I start the therapy tomorrow which is also the 1st day of exams. I have a Sociology exam tomorrow-I really want to get an A grade!

Thanks for the advice. Right now my goal is to pass all of the exams I'm taking this month. I am really preoccupied with them right now and have not self harmed for 9 days.

oh one more thing
for you a personal favorite song of mine
--------
When your down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name,
And you know whereever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
To see you again.
Winter, spring , summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend.

If the sky above you
should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
And soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, Spring, summer or fall
All you got to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?

People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.
You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don't you know that,
Winter Spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.

You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend.

It's 10 days now ;) I think I'm getting better, I hope so anyway. Thanks for your great advice :D

Kilroy-I will be online in the late evening GMT. PM me and tell me when you're next online. Thanks for the song, it made me smile and I feel a whole lot better now. That's an example of a good friend as are all the posts in this thread :D (second big smile).

Haven't heard from the boyfriend. Maybe my friend didn't see him as there have been so many exams this month. Who knows?

I've done a Maths and Psychology exam today and am so exhausted! The Maths exam was 2 hours 30 mins long and the Psychology exam was 1 hour 15 mins long. I had a Sociology exam yesterday and I have 3 more to do
I really hope I pass them.

Yes it was much easier than I expected. All I had to do was copy the info from this log book that I was allowed to take into the exam. I think waiting for the results is more stressful than the actual exam looking back at it...

You got to take notes into the exam?
I'd envy you but our exam was so easy we didn't need them

Did you take the Practical Investigations exam? You are allowed to bring in a log book for that one as there is so much to remember.
