Anyone else with AS get hit by "very depressed" moods in the absence of sympathetic attitudes? I get big time depressed, but it manifests itself on a mostly subconscious level (lethargy, inability to think, triggerless crying). Is this just high cognitive dissonance or an inability to read my own feelings adequately?

I think this is what I get.

I was severely depressed/ suicidal as a teen, I'm surprised I made it out of being a teenager alive. But around age 22 the depression lessened significantly such that I thought perhaps I'd snapped out of it. But I think I'm just a lot less depressed than I was, but still depressed-- between somewhat and very. There are times, however, where I don't feel depressed at all. I rounded up, though, and voted "very."

I feel flat most of the time. Depressed sometimes, so I voted a little. I rarely feel happy or contented, so I don't have any ups and downs, just down and not down - lol.

I was feeling a bit down, but I just saw a post from someone I hadn't seen for quite a while, so now I am smiling (not that anyone could tell) - lol

It all depends on the day. Sometimes I am suicidally depressed and other times I am close to being manic. Right now though? I am just a little depressed but at the same time being happy if that makes any sense at all. In October I was hypomanic and it lasted for several months. There are times that I have to go to the hospital because of my depression. But even while depressed, I can't cry normally. Some days I am really hyper and happy. Like I said, it depends on the day.

Depressed in the dictionary sense of the term, even when I'm happy there's still that depression deep inside just taking a brief step back so there's at least some brightness in my life. While I'm not 'sad' most of the time anymore, I've lately had isolated moments where I have a downward spiral and need alot of alone time to weather the worst of it.

I've had three separate moments of mild-intensity suicidal ideation in the last few months, but thankfully I haven't tried going through with it yet because I 'unfortunately' know better. It isn't as extreme as it sounds like, but it's still really bad, I know. I'm scared of what it feels like to be physically dying, and that's enough to put me off when combined with my desire to not hurt or financially imposition others.

I don't like admitting this stuff, especially that second paragraph. The attention that kind of thing earns always freaks me out, especially when people try to force me or my family to waste money on me by trying to get me hopped up on drugs or put on therapy, institutionalised, etc. Feeling sorry for me or trying to make me "not depressed anymore" does nothing for the logical reasons why my depression gets really bad in the first place.

Exactly how I feel. I keep on thinking about suicide all the time and I feel invisible and useless.

Thanks, dragonboy :)
I'm 16 too and suicidal depression is the happiest I've been so far this year. Being in college depresses me too as I'm constantly reminded of how alone I am.
