Do you hate it when people can tell you are shy?

I learned in my early to mid-teens that if I cared what other's thought, I would be a very sad and depressed person, 'cause most people can't stand me as it would take too much effort to understand my quirks than most are willing to give. That day was the turning point in my life and I have never looked back. Family members, friends, co-workers, or strangers, it doesn't matter 'cause I don't care what they think. I am not on this planet to satisfy the needs of others. I am here to survive and to ensure my offspring survive. No more, no less.
Very true, and I go by the same policy. But I was thrown for a loop the other day. First day back at school, first impressions, and having the "oh she's shy she must be *blank*" stereotype got to me that day. I think it's because if you WANT to break that box, it becomes extremely hard if not impossible to break. Communication afterwards is very awkward, as most people give negative connotations to quiet or shy people (they arent fun, yada yada) that they will apply to you for the rest of the year. It just got to me that day. I felt like," Oh, great. Not again."
