CUT

I don't get this whole cutting thing... I hear that psychological hormones are released by it... Still does not seem justifiable for anyone.. remember, those scars will be there for the rest of your life...
i love my scars. they're comforting, and pretty, and me. most cuts, especially if you bother with tape and antibiotic ointment, heal up pretty well. i haven't cut much for a long long time, probably some combination of dealing with my depression better and growing out of it, and all but the worst of my scars disappeared years ago.
it is a bad habit, and i wouldn't recommend it, but there are much worse things out there that people do to cope with their emotions. if you're not comfortable with your cutting then guilt and self-reproach don't seem like a productive approach to dealing with the situation. once you can accept yourself as a cutter who wants to stop, without any negative, self-defeating emotions in the way, it's not that hard. there are all kinds of alternative techniques to deal with those moments when you want to run for your blades, like hard exercise, quiet meditation, rubber-band snapping... ice cube stimulation or freezing baths... sometimes it was even comforting to me to draw on myself with markers, instead of blades.
