I can entirely sympathize with your situation, Ford. The only year I was in residence was complete and utter hell. I probably would have ended up killing somebody if I wasn't on Nardil at the time (I say this only partly tongue-in-cheek. If my environment becomes impinged upon, I become extremely agitated and ultimately, violent). There's really nothing you can do to reduce the noise other people make. The moron above me felt it his duty to jump up and down on the ceiling all hours of the day and night. People are incredibly ignorant. The women in the room across from us had one roommate who would always bring her boyfriend over several times a week and have very noisy sex, much to the chagrin of her roommates (this happened to me once with the guy living adjacent to my room).

Dorms are basically an excuse for people to act like monkeys. You should look for alternative living arrangements for next year ASAP.

I am more and more liking the idea of having my own place. I have roommates who are actually very nice and quiet, but I would like my own place, even if small... I kind of feel awkward around them, like I am on The Truman Show. And Im worried about saying the wrong thing to them. In fact, I know I have already.
