Issues with smokers

whenever I smell cigarette smoke on somebody walking by, I think about how strong I am, not to have developed that habit, in the past. I also try to see it, from the smoker's point of view, because habits are hard to break. I compare a person's smoking to obsessions that I've had, over the course of my life. That makes me better able, to understand things from the smoker's point of view. I do however admit that the smell really bothers me, but not to the person's face.

This is the most honest statement about smokers. I have a cousin became pregnant as a teen, she has two kids now and just turned 20 (Neither where planned) she smoked both kids. It was obvious that she wanted to keep the kids because she carried them to term and says she loves her kids, then why did she smoke? what a hypocrite! She claims that she hates smoking and it's a pain to quit, then why did she start to begin with? it saves the trouble of quiting.

I am 5 years older then her, as a teen she asked for a lot of advice, and one topic I talked to her about was smoking, I said to her "You have to weigh what you will gain and what you will lose is you start smoking, and decide which is more important to her"

Looks like poisening her kids unborn and born is more important...

now we know how others think about us when we just can't get the hint, discover the clue or what ever else we can't do to catch the drift.
It is all about making the connection between what it is we are doing and what it is it is doing to us. I was the same way about drinking. When I was told in AA that drinking was my problem, I was astonished!, however I could intellectually see what a mess it had made of me, I was just 'mind blind' to the root of all my issues.

I quit cigarettes because one day it just hit me, if I never picked up a cigarette again, I would never smoke again all I had to do was not pick up that cigarette. To me it was that simple, your milage may vary.

I really don't have anything against smokers at all but the only problem I have is my downstairs neighbors who smoke. it wouldn't be a problem at all if the smoke wouldn't come right upstairs. I swear the floor must be made out of swiss cheese or something.

either way the smell comes up and lingers here particularly int he winter when I can't just open a window for fresh air. it can be annoying but I put up with it because I used to smoke and I know what its like ot have people constantly after you about it. well theres that and the fact that I don't want to piss off my neighbors since things get bad really fast when you do that.

its the vents. When I burn my dinner and switch on the fan, it all goes whooshing up into the apartment upstairs and they have to turn of their stove top ventilator fan, too.

My problem is the cigarette smoke from the next door neighbors that creeps through the venting system.

I have to turn on the vent to syphon it off.

Ahh but you see I have no vents at all there is no forced air heating in this apartment.

I have old fashioned gas stove type heaters. both of them wall mounted. int he kitchen I have an un-vented gas heater and in the living room I have a wall mounted vented convection gas heater with a blower. there is no central heating at all. but I can smell it when they smoke downstairs and I can smell exactly what they are cooking in the kitchen. I think the floors are just thin. int he bathroom you can see the lights down stairs through the cracks.


on the plus side I don't have to worry about a power failure in the winter because all of my heating does not rely on any electricity (aside form that supplied by the thermal-couple) in order to start up and provide heat. even the unit with the blower in it has the blower as an optional feature and works fine without it.

Even all my coffee making supplies are non electric required. I have a manual coffee grinder and a stovetop percolator.

The only thing I would really miss is my computer in a blackout.

tob smoke is pretty nasty, but I don't mind it. I've been a dopehead for years, so I'm around smokers a lot.
