Lymphoma? What's that?

It's a cancer of the lymph nodes I was diagnosed with a couple months ago. Fortunately it's one of the most treatable types of cancer. I have to have chemo for it, but I'd probably have a better chance of dying if I was otherwise healthy and caught the flu than I do from this.

Update - I had a PET scan on Saturday, discussed results yesterday, and had a consultation with a radiologist today. Both my neck and mediastinal masses have shown significant response to chemotherapy, though my neck mass indicates further treatment and my mediastinal mass is borderline. Also, apparently some sort of number related to sedimentation of some sort in the blood puts me in the "unfavorable" category, which I didn't know before (I think that means I have a higher risk of relapse later). The conclusion we reached is that we'll do another two rounds of chemo (three more treatment sessions, since I had one yesterday) and then do another PET scan to see how much radiation to give and where. Probably I'll get some radiation to my neck, but since the mediastinal mass is only borderline and also a riskier place due to nearby heart, lung, and breast tissue, we'll see how that responds to the additional chemo and then weigh the costs and benefits of adding radiation to that area.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad there's been progress. How are the side effects?

Side effects are still very manageable. I have some nausea and decreased energy for a few days after chemo, but it's still so much better than how I was feeling before chemo and nothing like the horror stories I've heard about some other people's experiences. The neuropathy I had seems to have cleared up, too, no more numb fingertips. I am getting some joint pain particularly in my hands, but that's not horrible, either, mostly just annoying at this point.

I’m glad.

When will the chemo sessions end?

You probably "told" me already----but I forgot for now. If I did, sorry about that.

Sorry, I missed this earlier. I'm scheduled for three more doses of chemo, each two weeks apart, and then I'm getting another PET scan to determine further treatment (chemo and/or radiation).

Getting ready for what will hopefully be my last chemo session on Thursday. The past few times have been rougher, with severe joint pain and chest pain for a few days. It’s really annoying that it’s so hard to tell if something like chest pain is just to be expected from chemo or a cause for concern. A week from Saturday I’m getting another PET scan, and the results of that will determine the rest of my treatment. We’re expecting that I will stop chemo and start radiation, the primary question is how much radiation, and whether I’ll be getting any to my chest or just my neck.
